I have an older quintana roo tiphoon and the decals are starting to rub off a bit. I kind of want to remove them completely and just rock the straight titanium or maybe add some new decals.
What is the best way to remove the decals? There is no clear coat over them, so that should make it easier. I don’t want to just scape them off because I don’t want scratches all over my bike.
use a low setting on a heat gun or use a hair dryer. heat them up and peel them off or use a plastic scraper.
Yep, heat works well. So does your thumbnail. Those decals would work, but they are expensive, I’d contact the company and see what they can do for you. Tell them they look junky peeling off too—might help.
I updated the old, cracked decals on my Litespeed Ultimate a couple years ago - turned out great. To remove them, I used a razor blade and gentle pressure. A little WD-40 helps soften up the adhesive and makes it easier to get all the residue off. Fingernail polish remover also works, but it’s more volatile. After the decals were off, I shined up the area with some very fine steel wool - again, very light pressure. I gave the entire frame a once-over just to make sure it’d be a uniform surface when I was done. Finally, clean up the area with some isopropyl alcohol to remove all residue, WD-40, fingerprints, etc. - gotta have a super clean surface for the new decals to really ‘take’.
