I’m trying my hardest to remove GXP bottom bracket off my Felt B2 and the damn thing just won’t budge.
Turning counter-clockwise (left) on non-drive side and clockwise (right) on drive side.
I’m starting to strip off some metal on the cups.
Any suggestions on how to get these tough BB cups turning?
Do you think the cups have seized on there? If’ it’s been a while and you didn’t use an anti-seize or grease it could be tough going.
When it look like it’s starting to strip I try to make myself take a step back.
- Am I using the right tool? What kind of BB socket or wrench are you using? There might be a better one.
- I am partial to PB Blaster as a penetrating oil, which may help free the BB up.
Do you have a repair stand to work from? It makes it so much easier when you don’t have to be bent over.
Are you using an open end type of wrench, or a cup type? I’ve had better luck with the latter when removing really stuck GXP cups. Sometimes you just need to break out the big pipe wrench though.
