I just picked up a set of Flashpoint demos and want to remove the yellow demo decals. They look like they were heat applied. Has anyone removed decals from Flashpoints? Does it leave any sticky residue behind? Would it be ok to use Goo Gone to help with the removal? Just exploring my options here. Thanks!!
I removed decals from Zipp wheels and since Flashpoint is made by Zipp I would guess they are applied the same way. I used acetone and a bunch of rags. Be sure to do it outside or you will find yourself higher than a kite. It is a messy job but the acetone will take all the adhesive residue off. I would also take your tires/tubes off too.
And that’s ok on the carbon? Did you run that by Zipp before you did it? Acetone is serious stuff and I don’t want to effect the integrity of the wheel.
I thought the exact same thing but, in the Zipp owners manual they say to use acetone or denatured alcohol. Here is what I found from the website: http://www.zipp.com/support/manuals/manuals.php (click on wheel care)
CARE AND CLEANING
Any cleaner that will not affect epoxy resins is acceptable for your rims. Acetone or
denatured alcohol work quite well on the rims but will ruin the decals, so be careful when
using. Armor All leaves a nice shine on the rim when finished, and is a quick and easy way
to make your wheels look new again. Goof Off or any product intended to remove latex
paint will also work well to remove tubular tire glue. Do not use any tools to install tubular
tires on or remove them from your carbon rims.
I bought some FPs right after they were introduced a few years ago and removed the decals without any problems. I used degreaser to remove any residual adhesive.
