Relocating to Jacksonville, FL area (likely home in St Johns/Nocatee/Ponte Vedra area). Cycling and swimming suggestions

I just accepted a transfer to Jacksonville, FL. I posted something similar in the Lavender Room but there’s more eyes over here. We’re looking for a home in the Beachwalk neighborhood. What are some good riding routes in the area?

Swimming is already covered:

I have heard from one forum member and a couple of other people regarding concerns with Beachwalk so certainly looking at other options.

Didn’t you post something about moving to somewhere in North Carolina awhile back?

That unfortunately fell through. This was choice #2 and a done deal.

How big a place do you need and what’s your budget. We’re about to put my folks ocean front condo in Ponte Vedra Beach up for sale.

+1 Ponte Vedra is awesome. I have family in that area and the trip up and down A1A to St Augustine through the Guana is a ride I make sure to hit anytime I’m over that way. Nearby pools and the Atlantic for swimming too.

Reach out to Owen Shott at Jax Running Company. Solid runner, cyclist, triathlete. He’ll hook you up with all the good rides in the area.

what is that? it looks like an awesome place to swim!

Yeah. Nice place. Warm weather. I’ve spent 5-6 weeks there for the last few years. Only made 2 weeks this past November, though. I intend to buy a condo there when I get my house in VA sold.

Nocatee is a great place to ride and run. There isn’t a lake like beach walk but there is an 8 lane pool open 5a-10p 6 days a week.

I spoke with a realtor who said his advice would be to avoid Beachwalk for now. Awesome potential but it’s not selling well so who knows what future development will be like and buying there could be a gamble.

So areas we are considering in St Johns are Celestina (Lennar) and Julington Lakes (Toll Brothers).

Areas more in the Nocatee/Ponte Vedra area would include Coastal Oaks, 20 Mile, and Palencia.

What nice gyms for the family and swimming pools are near these areas?

Just dont try to hold his wheel! It hurts

There is a great saturday morning ride out of Open Road Bicycles with the VeloBrew group

I do not live in Jax, but have spent quite a bit of time there training.

I’ve live in St Johns (Durbin Crossing, west of I-95) for about 7 years now, moving there from Ohio.

I gotta tell you, the riding is really disappointing here. But from Beachwalk, I’d head west (SR210/Long Leaf Pine/ SR16) over toward the river. Roads are a little wider with a bike lane.

There are some strong groups that ride from PV Beach area into Nocatee, and some groups that come south out of Jax into St Johns regularly through the week.

Scott

Coastal Oaks and Twent Mile are both in Nocatee. There are two water parks for Nocatee residents (pools, lazy river, slides, zip lines, full bar, etc). If you bring the kids along in your home search and they see the water parks it’s over. There are also smaller pools in both neighborhoods.

There aren’t many gyms in St. John’s county outside of the resident gyms that all the communities have, which are typically more than adequate.

FYI - Planet Swim broke ground on a new facility in the Nocatee area which will be a true aquatics center with weight/strength training facilities as well. Have not heard of ETA as of yet other than 2020.

Headed to JK today for my house hunting trip. Coastal Oaks and The Outlook at Twenty Mile are the neighborhoods that interest us the most so far, without having set foot on ground yet.

JK?

He doesn’t know yet it’s casuallt referred to as Jax, not JK.

That’s what I thought, but I didn’t want to assume
