There is a good chance I will be relocating to Austin and working in Round Rock. Any thoughts on where I should start looking to live with the family - Schools are the most important. I prefer not to live in a cooking cutter home\planned community (I live in one of those now).
Other considerations are proximity to a pool and groups rides. I would like to keep the commute under 25 minutes.
LOL 25 min commute in ATX
You need to live two blocks from your office.
I am not that familier with the north end of the ATX but if I was in your position I would look north. Georgetown or even east to Huto…there is a bit of good riding out that way but I was a south side guy when I was down there and didn’t spend much time up that way.
Man I miss Austin everyday…
Leander, Tx…Just north of Austin…The train will be running to Downtown Austin this summer…
Thats where I am heading!
thanks - how are the schools? I have a 4 & 6 yr old.

I know you said schools are most important, and I think there is a nice one near by, looks nice.
But what is actually important is the Veloway, which is right there
as well as the mopac loop, 100 jogging trails, a high school track to run on, and a public pool to swim in. all within a mile radius.
=)

My wife taught at Stiener Ranch elem…best in the state.
I forgot about the train.
That is a hell of a drive to round rock…
Man I once road 90 miles and something on the veloway…what was I thinking
You were thinking it was awesome
and you were right!
Coming from Houston that thing can entertain me endlessly. I’m used to going for an hour on a 1/3 mile oval!
and I don’t know where round rock is yet, I just know that supposedly dumb people live there? lol

It was better then getting mushed on 360
.
It was better then getting mushed on 360
is that common? the shoulder on 360 seems huge.
I was out that way last Nov shopping for a home. We settled on Leander. Schools are new and from what I have heard, very good. I was told to keep my kid out of any Austin School District school…I tried to figure out a route via bike to downtown, it can be done, but no bike lanes in that area…Did some riding west of Leander…Nice quite roads, not many cars out in the country. Drivers seemed to give me space…no problems…Plus, Lance only lives a few miles away,so maybe you can jump on his wheel sometime! Austin is turning into a huge bike town…They are making it better for riding…
I wont be doing anything that takes me to downtown Austin except for the date nite with the wife…
Do they still have the white bikes along side the road? The ghost bike project? If you see one in town it marks a place where someone was killed. I don’t think it is any worse than any other road, just seems that the cars are going way too fast…except during rush hour when they are all sitting still bwhahahaha then ride bike and smirk
Leander is really a good school system and they are really into the kids. My wife really misses it there. I would love to get back someday. I would love to live out at Lago or that area…
