Don’t recommend movies often, but saw Red Tails Friday night. About the Tuskegee Airmen. Very good.

I had the opportunity to meet Lee Archer (although not credited officially, he was probably the one ace in the Tuskegee Airmen) back in 2003. Really neat guy, with great stories. I have his autograph, and a photo of me and him together at our 34th BS Christmas party.

Is it something that is appropriate and would hold a 7 year olds attention? My son wants to see it because the advertisement shows planes, explosions and shooting…everything a seven year old boy likes. Not sure if there would be enough of that to keep his attention though.
I’d like to see it though.

Definately. Only a few scenes with bad language…he would like it I think.
is the movie as jingoistic as the trailer appears to be?
Definately patriotic, but in the sense that it comes from the view of the Tuskegee Airmen (obviously)…it shows the plight they were against, but not extreme like other movies market. The patriotism flows not so much towards the US but rather towards the men themselves.

Absolutely awesome movie. Saw it on Friday with my 12 year old son. Referring to jingoistic - I think I know the version of the trailer that you are referring to and absolutely not. Check out the 3 official trailers online and that gives you the real feel for the movie.
Question–
Does the movie attempt to perpetuate the myths that surround the Tuskegee Airmen, such as that they never had a bomber they were escorting shot down by German fighters?
it was a great movie.

I can’t say as though I remember a bomber actually getting shot down while they were escorting but I also don’t remember them making this claim in the movie.
They did show one getting shot up and turning back which they escorted back.
I thought it was a good movie, was a tad bit for the seven year old and thankfully he just can not grasp the underlying concept of racism.
We spent a good deal of time talking about this afterwards because he couldn’t understand many parts of film and why people were acting a certain way. According to him the best part of the film was a couple explosions and one guy spitting up blood. During the movie he exclaimed out loud “Uh oh…that isn’t good”
There was some language used in the film I REALLY hope he doesn’t repeat at school today…or ever.

I don’t remember any claims being made, and I believe in the last combat sequence, a bomber or two does get shot down and one gets damaged and has to return with escorts.
Also, if I remember correctly, the only reference being made about no bombers being shot down while being escorted by the Redtails was regarding their first mission - a bomber pilot referenced that being the first time their escorts didn’t leave their side and allowed them to return back 100%.
