How much time between triathlons is recommended? Thinking about a half ironman (September) with a few shorter distance events before to lead up to it. There is an International distance triathlon and a short distance two weeks before the half. I was thinking more about a short event three weeks before that is low key (300y/14m/5k) which will be more of a training race. Just wondering what the more seasoned tri-geeks have to say.
This is a question that NO ONE here will be able to answer for YOU. It’s completely personal how long it takes for you to recover. With some, it may take a couple of days to recover, and with others, a couple of weeks. Only you know how quickly your own body recovers…don’t let someone else tell you that.
Too much figures into that calculation - age, experience, training volume & distance - not to mention yr genes and pressures of life - to be able to generalize. For what it’s worth, I’m planning on about a race a month from February on, training thru most of them, to target my July “A” race (IMLP). No transition (other than a single rest day followed by a lite swim / bike day) after shorter races (olys), and a week-long transition after Florida 70.3. I find I do best with a four-week cycle (3-1 hard week-recovery week) schedule, although as volume increases maybe a 2:1 feels better, and try to schedule races so they’re included in the hard weeks.
Good luck!
