Recovery from ligamentum teres/hip labrum tear

Hello all, I’m 50 and recently got into triathlons. Finished two 70.3 in the past years and ran my first marathon last fall. On my road to training for my first full distance IM I started getting dull aches in my left hip that radiated down into glute and hamstring. After a while things got bad enough after long runs that pain during the night woke me up.

After all sorts of approaches like rest, PT, deep tissue massage, osteopath, … I finally got an arthrogram (MRI with contrast). Results show a complex labral tear, irregular and chronically torn ligamentum teres, and tendinopathy of hammies and glutes.

The PA to my orthopedic surgeon simply said to do PT for 3 months and to check back in then. But I’m wondering if the LT tear might be the driver of hip instability that causes all the other issues. Does anybody here have personal experience with similar hip issues?
