I am looking for a recovery drink for a person who is lactose intolerant. Would Ultragen be okay, or Recoverite ?
Any information would be appreciated.

“Silk” brand chocolate soymilk - tastes very similar to regular chocolate milk, 4:1 carb/protein ratio, inexpensive, lasts several months in the fridge. Can’t go wrong-
Seconding that suggestion.
Can you get SiS Rego in the US ?

The chocolate flavour is pretty good
not in any particular order:
soymilk
juice
gatorade
water
.
Whey Isolate mixed with gatorade. True whey is dairy, but in the iso, there is little to no lactose.
So Whey Isolate has very little lactose?
Chocolate soymilk is such a dream for me (also lactose intolerant). Chocolate milk used to be my favorite drink as a kid but always made me feel like such crap! Now it’s such a great treat after a tough workout!

ps. I think that you can also buy soy protein powder for recovery shakes…
I use Lactaid milk in my recovery drink, which is usually Chocolate milk with some kind of protein mix.
Lactaid has lactase added, so the Lactose is already broken down to glucose and galactose.
Yes, lactose is a carbohydrate and most isolates have say 1 - 1.5g of carbs per 40 - 45g of protein. I work at a GNC and many people with lactose issues use whey isolates with no problems.
Be careful about the Soymilk as a recovery drink. It’s not a direct replacement for “chocolate milk.” You have to drink 4-5x as much to get the carbs you need to recover from a hard workout. I had a nutritionist chew me out for drinking soymilk as a recovery drink. She suggested that you need 1 gram of carbs per 1 kg of body weight. For me, that’s about a gallon of soymilk!
If I’m in a bind, I’ll drink a couple of Ensures or the Walmart brand of the same thing. It’s a soy based product that has plenty of carbs and protein and just a little bit of fat. If I have more time, I’ll make a smothie out of vanilla soymilk (8th Continent brand doesn’t have the nasty aftertaste that most soymilks have) and throw in some yogurt and frozen fruit. I’ll try to do this within 15 mins of working out. I find that my workouts have been much better since I made the switch.
Is there any recovery drink on the market that is for lactose intolerant, besides soy milk and chocolate?

nutrition data for Silk Chocolate Soymilk - 23g carbs per 8 oz, so 20 oz of it would give me that 1g CHO / 1 kg body weight… with 12.5 g protein and 350 calories. I think it’s a fine recovery drink.
Plain or vanilla soymilk would not have the carbs you need, however.
I usually take a lactaid tablet on my first serving of chocolate milk. Works great.
I don’t think that Hammer uses lactose in any of their products. At least that’s what I’ve been told. I didn’t look into it too much because I hate the way their drinks taste.

That’s not too bad, but I’d still have to drink about 32 oz to get the carbs I need. I guess it’s not so bad for you little people Although I’ve heard that you can mix a few scoops of Carbo Pro (maltodextrin) into it to help.
It’s certainly better than the 11 carbs per 8 oz vanilla 8th Continent that I drink. I’ll have to look into the chocolate for those times when I can’t make my super smoothies.

You no read so good. Lactaid milk IS milk without the lactose. Try it.
If you are lactose intolerant, you have diminished lastase, so you don’t break down lactose to glucose and galactose like most northern european types. Lactaid is pretreated with lactase, so the lactose is already broken down.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure that Clif recovery drink has no lactose, and I don’t think that Cytomax recovery has no lactose.
If you are looking for a great tasting lactose free recovery drink, try Isopure. They make many different kinds of drinks from meal replacements to recovery drinks. If you like fruit flavored beverages give it a try. Lactose free and they actually taste pretty damn good.
