Today, Floyd lead the Ouch team, up Palomar. They cruised up to the left hand turn, then turned it up a notch.
The record is that all 12 riders finished the 11.8mi --4000ft gain–climb under 60 minutes. I bet my bottom dollar that 12 people have not broken 1 hour in the same month.
Another record…12 KUOTAS rode under an hour! Maybe 1 Cervelo has done this in the same week!
All the best to the team as they are heading into Tour of Calif!
How did McCarty do? Seems his training has been going really well this winter. This is his first real test though. Curious to see how it’s working out.
That is incredible. I’ve always been a fan of Stadler- Impressive athlete. I was lucky enough to ride with im and Scott Molina, two big heroes of mine, in Thailand. It was an expereince I’ll never forget. Wrote about it here: http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/editorials/0000045.shtml
Man, you are really reaching for a record here. It is like our margarita records we set around here, just pick a new course, and lo and behold, new record…I would expect that all those guys should break an hour, no problem…If I did 1:01 on a tri bike back in the day, that means that most top pro triathletes could do it too, as I was not a great climber…Real question is, what if the pace was 55 the whole way, how many would still be there???
Did you ride it with them??? If you did an hour this time of year, and you are still running your 1.8 miles a day, those 40+ duathletes better run and hide…(-;
I can’t believe the ridiculousness of your post. It is post like these that make many of us run and hide from the forum, as it is hard to read negative posts!
Please drive or fly out to SD and give it your best on Palomar. You will then appreciate the original post.
If you feel that it is necessary to badger me on any of my future posts, you can either email me directly at pthomas@kuotanorthamerica.com or call me at 619 726 6995!
Maybe so, but not very well. Complaining about mean people on Slowtwitch is lame and as soon as I saw his email his original post lost credibility, it’s all just an advertisement for Kuota.
I hope I don’t get called out for saying this.
Hey Paul just ignore all the ahole comments that appear here. I think the vast majority of us enjoy reading these kinds of posts. Isn’t the OUCH team the old HealthNet team? I ran accross the BMC team training here in SoCo a few weeks ago and Astana is supposed to show us next week. It is going to be a pretty exciting ToC and that climb up Palomar will be awesome!
He just reminds us that a tainted professional cyclist can ride up Palomar on ANY bike faster than the average joe, even if they have unlimited time to train (as the OP).
Though it is good to know that Kuota is one of those manufcts who are “non-discriminatory” when it comes to (past) drug-issues.
Now come on, Paul. What fun would it be to call you?
I’ve ridden Palomar a couple times and it’s a nasty, ugly climb. But that is their JOB, after all. I would expect that a professional cyclist could outclimb me. Jesus, I’d hope so.
In an effort to make nice, I’ll concede. The OUCH team, riding Kuotas (www.kuotanorthamerica.com), can climb Mt. Palomar REALLY fast.
Looking for some local knowledge – When did McCarty start riding with that shim under his left foot? I don’t recall seeing anything during his Slipsteam, Phonak or USPS years.
You can see it in this photo – http://www.velonews.com/photo/87013
Just wondering and hope it has him firing on all cylinders.
