Recommended Road Shoes under $100

My dad is new to cycling and sporting an old pair of my road shoes and its about time to upgrade him to a new pair for Xmas.

I was going to get him a pair of the Shimano R087 Road Shoes but was looking for some recommendations on any other basic middle of the ‘road’, road shoe.

Thanks all!

Specialized has a lot of good middle-of-the-road shoes
.

Nothing wrong with that shoe. It would probably serve him very well. Ribble has good prices on Shimano shoes too.

When selecting a size, use the US size chart. I find that their Euro sizing tends to be a little different from what I’m used to. For instance, shimano 44 Euro = 9.7US (yes, the label says 9.‘7’).

I normally wear a 9.5 running shoe (Asics / Nike) and it’s usually listed as a 43 Euro. The Shimano 43 was too small on my foot (listed as 8.9US), but the 44 fit well.

If your dad can fit into a Euro size 42, then I have a pair of NIB tri-specific shoes that I can part with for under $100. The brand is Exustar (model SR231). Not exactly a household name, but I’m 3.5 years into my first pair and they’re the best shoes I’ve ever owned.

Check out the Specialized web site right now as they are clearing out a lot of their shoes. Pretty much getting picked thru at this point (available sizes), but you may get lucky.

Here’s a link to a solid pair of shoes. I’ve tried a lot of other brands but always end up back in Sidi. I’ve put thousands of miles in an older version of these shoe with no complainants.

Not sure if you’re familiar with Serria Trading Post but if you sign up for their emails they’ll send you a coupon for 15-30% off every couple days so I would expect to grab these shoes under $85.

The low-end moldable Bont’s are on sale now. You could probably find a pair for around $75. I picked up a pair just as a spare.

Bonktown has had Mavic shoes normally in the $180 range for less than $100.
