Recommendations for open water swim in Croatia (Split, Hvar, Dubrovnik)?

Hello. I will spend a week in Croatia (Split, Hvar, Dubrovnik) and I’d like to do swim while I’m there because I have a race (OLY) the weekend after the trip. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks an advance.

It’s been 10 years since I’ve been to Croatia, but…

Catch a short water taxi from the Hvar harbour to Pakleni islands.
Pick one of the many coves and go! So good!

I also swam at Plaža Dubovica which is a short drive from Hvar.

I am from Dubrovnik, was there few weeks ago. Plenty of places for open water swim. Google Earth is your friend :-). Around the old city, from the old port to West harbour, from island of Locrum to the old city, Uvala Lapad beach then around the Lapad peninsula, pick your distance, Avoid Gruz harbour as the boat traffic can be heavy, you can swim around the island of Daksa, distance depends on where you start. Wherever you go watch for boat traffic as the locals are not used to swimmers far away from the shore.
Enjoy your stay and while in Dubrovnik you MUST go to Gino’s ice cream place. Best ice cream in the world!
PS
Where are you staying in Dubrovnik?

Staying near the Pile Gate. I’ll definitely try the ice cream.

When we were there a few years ago, we stayed close to Bellevue Beach and I swam there every day. Highly recommended. It is a 10 min walk from the old town.

Hotel Imperial?

Forgot to mention to wear water shoes in Croatia. Lots of urchins.

Quick update about this trip: it was awesome! Pretty much every beach I went had buoys protecting the area and in a few places like Hvar, I was able to swim from one beach to another within that protected area. The water was very salty and even though I’m a weak swimmer (and recovering from a broken collarbone), the swim was effortless due to the extra flotation I got and the extremely clear waters. I had a really good time. Thanks for tips. Oh, the ice cream was excellent.
