My father-in-law picked up a new SC and needs a fitter who knows their stuff. He’s willing to travel a ways if necessary. Thanks!

Tom’s Pro Bike in Lancaster NY is top notch.
geneva bicycle center: great guys, will listen, take experience, fitness, flexibility and race style into consideration…professional and laid back. I’m a friek wehn it comes to this stuff, only fit prior to working with them was at racers edge in florida, they fit alot of pro’s and have a solid reputation. My first race after buying my new cervelo and being set-up there (6 weeks ago) was a bike course record setting :58 low oly (and the course WAS long)…second race on the bike yesterday HIM 3rd OA bike split, very comfortable, very efficient. Maybe they need to fit me for a wetsuit and some orthotics too…?! (float, hammer, jog)…anyway check them out in geneva, abt 50 minutes from Rochester where I also reside
Chad and Jim at Geneva Bike Center in Geneva,NY are second to none. They have fit me on 3 different bikes now over the years (including 2 retrofits from bikes done at FIST certified shops that never felt right) with amazing results. I think their strength is that they start by examining the flexibility, injury history, and body habitus of the rider and then make the bike fit the rider, rather than going with a preconceived idea of what a most aerodynamic fit is. My starting time-trial position was done by a FIST shop (now out of business) and was very aerodynamic, but in reality I couldn’t hold that aero position for more than about 10-minutes before my back started to hurt and I had to sit-up. Even after 4-years, the situation never improved. After the refit, I could ride 112 miles without coming out the bars and dropped by IM bike PR by 15-minutes. Run was better too. Everyone in Rochester swears by these guys.
x3 on Geneva Bike Center. They know their stuff, are trustworthy, and some of the nicest people in the world. They take the time to get trained and are FIST certified.Their staff turn-over rate is close to zero, meaning that they have all been there. They will get to know you. You won’t find a better bike shop or people. Period.
I have heard great things about the Geneva Bike Shop as well. Another option is possibly Tri-Spot in Buffalo. It’s a new shop that just opened last year.
Here’s another recommendation for Geneva Bicycle Center. They have been my shop for years. Knowledgeable, professional, and friendly.
x4 on GBC.
i’ll chime in on GBC as a great option.
Another option you may want to consider is Endurance Monster in Skeneateless, NY.
Brand new mutli sport shop, I toured their facility and it is second to none in regard to space and technology.
Great fit system with a computrainer built into it…
I will say I’ve never had a fit with them, but know one of the partners well and he knows his stuff.
Jim at GBC also knows his stuff and will take his time with you–ive been fit with Jim 3 times and left more than impressed each time.
When it comes to fit in upstate NY, those are your two best options, IMO.
X1000000 on GBC, great people who really know thier stuff! Stop in the Red Dove tavern for some food and drink after you fitting!
Thanks to everyone for your replies. I’ll forward these on and let him begin researching.
I think it’s awesome that people in Rochester NY actually have good bike store options.
I lived there for 8 years (not as a triathlete, but as a runner in my free time), and it snows so friggin much and for so long that I can’t believe people still train for triathlons out there. As I recall, snow was on the ground from Dec (frigid temps by Nov) - April. Ice for sure from Jan-March. Yikes.
I was outside starting in February, couldn’t stand it on the trainer any more, just layer up and enjoy the ride! It’s a little sketchy until April but it is always better than riding the trainer.
Bumping this thread to see if any western NY’ers have recommendations.
I’m looking to have a tri-bike fit starting pretty much from scratch - have no idea what my proper dimensions are, and would ideally like to walk away with a my measurements and a list of potential bikes that would be workable for my body type/size. I have not decided if I will end up targeting a new or used bike, where I will buy from, and I may not buy yet for a few months.
Any suggestions? I did call Geneva Bike Center and while they were very nice, they said they could not accommodate my ask with their current size-cycle setup. I was a bit surprised as I had heard great things. I am not sure if they just didn’t want to take the time to fit someone who may buy elsewhere, or if they truly cannot do this type of fit.
Either way - GBC recommended ‘Love and Sprockets’ out in Hamburg, NY. Anyone have any experience with this fitter, or have other suggestions?
I am coming from the Rochester area so this would be a bit of a hike. But if it’s the best option I probably will just roll with it. Thanks in advance for any ideas or thoughts.
Have you tried Towpath Bike in Pittsford? I have not had a fitting done by them, but have had great experiences with that shop as a whole. They appear to have pretty extensive fit options.
My only experience with ‘Love and Sprockets’ is with their sponsorship of the “Tri in the Buff” race.
I’m from Syracuse and couldn’t find anyone to give me an x/y fit as described so frequently on here. Albany was the closest I could find so I went on body measurements. There’s some Trek, cervelo, and I think QR people on here that can get close that way. The problem is while most of the fitters are good they just can’t justify a fit bike. I see Jamie Campbell at bike loft in Syracuse and he does a great job with what he has, I’ve sent quite a few people to him and they’re very happy.
Unfortunately I don’t have recommendations for you other than to consider a road trip? The website of the one you asked about in Hamburg does say they use motion capture, but I’d ask them if their fit cycle is endlessly adjustable for every aspect of fit (saddle fore/aft, crank length, front end height, reach, etc).
A fit on a fit cycle is well worth a trip if that’s what it takes.
Thanks all for your responses. I would say a road trip beyond Buffalo wouldn’t be in the cards (even that sounds like a bit of a pain to be honest), just something I can’t justify at the moment. I have some good questions to ask of TowPath and/or Love and Sprockets now. If anyone has experience getting a comprehensive fit between Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo areas, feel free to chime in. Thanks again all.
