Recommendations for a behind-saddle bottle cage holder?

I’m looking to get an attachment to put bottle behind the saddle and all the online reviews for every option are mixed. It’s tough to pick one (preferably one that doesn’t cost $100). Any recommendations?

I put the Xlab Delta 200 behind my Cobb JOF (used the CO2 cart holder too) and like it very much. The Gorilla cage holds my Purist bottles nice n tight and in 5 or 6 rides from 50-90 miles each not an ejection yet.

I did use the include hardware and some loose washers to position it more horizontal so to mitigate ejection velocity.

Pro aerofuel. I just got this for the wife and it’s really nice, great price as well!

For one bottle, go with zip ties: lightest, cheapest solution. Use a cage that won’t launch bottles (Xlab Gorilla, Specialized Ribcage, Blackburn Slick).

I’ve had good luck with the Slick. It’s light, cheap, and color matches my bike.

Another vote for zip ties and a good cage. If you are feeling inventive you can throw in a saw, a staple gun and a drill and get the cage really close in.

zip ties, the triathlete best friend
.

I’ve been using a profile design RML

Fairly well priced and a few different bottle angle options. Think I got mine for $50 something.

Currently I’ve got one bottle cage off the back, I had two but never used the second one.

Are any of them easier than others to get the bottle in and out of (especially getting it back in)? I tried using one once on a training ride, and apparently I’m not coordinated enough to quickly/accurately place a bottle back into a cage behind my saddle! Took forever…

I just zipped tied a Profile Design Kage under my saddle. Works just fine. I think it is tucked in more than anything else I could have bought.

Another vote for zip ties. Cage I’m using is the Specialized rib cage - looked on ebay. Initially I got a plastic one, but it broke after my 2nd ride. Got a carbon one, and it’s been great for the 2+ months I’ve been using it.

For me it’s a matter of practice to get the bottles back in quickly.

I may also use the rear hydration differently than others. The longest I race is the HIM distance. During the race I drink from my front bottle cage, when that is empty I toss it at an aid station and grab the one from the rear. It is then in the front cage where I can easily grab it.

There is a cheap like 10 bucks cheap minoura one on amazon that I just got and used for eagleman. I tried not to but after a few attempts at zip ties stretching and also resulting in it being too unstable to rack my bike with it I just spent the 10 bucks.

I use it with a ribcage, the way I bent the minoura bracket to clear my seat post flexed it slightly that the retaining tab doesn’t fully engage the bottle but the tension is still great. No issues with it so far.

When I had it ziptied it did the opposite and engaged a little too much, surprised I didn’t lift my rear wheel off the ground while riding trying to get the bottle out!

I’ve heard good things about this but isn’t it $90?

Its $80 at TS, get one when they have their 15%/20%,25% off sale. The Gorilla XT is usually $60 so for $20 for the mount.

Zip tie mounts are great if your seat accomidates it. The Cobb JOF didn’t hold the best with the zip ties, plua I got the xlab add on co2 holder so I didn’t have to jam them into my draft bag.

Thank you. Do you know where I look to find when they’re doing one of those sales?

The Bontrager one is solid and hasn’t yet launched a bottle on me. that’s worth its weight in gold.

This holder with xlab gorilla works well.
The specialized rib cages a lot of people recommend…I had 2 broken just from the weight of a full bottle goin over bumps.

I think there is a 15% off almost always located via google. Subscribe to their emails and you’ll get sales codes when available. Should be a 4th sale upcoming

+1. Just started to use this set up and works great, the xlab looked good but I didn’t want to spend the money when I could get this for $10 and use an existing carbon cage.
