I’ve been using Asics DS gel light trainers and a somewhat similar model by saucony (a bit heavier and bigger in general than the DS). I usually rotate between them every other day. Looking to potentially replace the saucony’s with something closer to the asics, or a bit lighter. I overpronate slightly (based off my footprints in the snow on multiple loop runs, like someone mentioned in another thread I don’t place too much stock in analysis at shoe stores). I’ve been running 40-45 mpw, going work up to 55-60 late summer this year.
something closer to the asics, or a bit lighter.
I’d recommend buying another pair of Asics DS. I’m a huge fan of sticking to what works. I wouldn’t recommend upping your mileage and decreasing your shoe support at the same time.
Mizuno Elixir or Brooks Racer ST if you are looking to change things up.
I intend to, I’ve been going thru shoes 2 pairs at a time. Not entirely sure why I do that, but its worked fairly well for me thus far.
In any case the new shoes would only be used every other day (w/ the other runs being the DS trainers)
Cool, which Saucony’s are you replacing?
Look at the Saucony Fastwitch 4. They have a slight medial post and arch support but also are very light and comfortable. Definitely less support than the DS Trainer though, kind of a hybrid of a light trainer and racing flat.
Saucony Guide 2
Bigger shoe than the asics, I run slightly slower in them (whether thats because of weight or comfort I have no idea).
K-Swiss K-ona’s. Way more comfortable than the Elixir 5s with a similar posting. Feel very much like the DS Trainer 15s but don’t fit quite as snug. They also seem to run a bit big.
I’ve been racing in Asics DS for a couple of years and am now alternating them with New Balance 904 (current model 905). I must like them better because I chose to race in them this weekend over the Asics.
