so i’ve been using a winter skull cap from pearl izumi–anyone know a good one that is lighterweight for warmer weather? looking for something to cover scalp and act as sun protection but not be a furnace on my head

Coolmax Buff. Wicks, UPF 50 (or might be 30, can’t remember) and can be worn in a number of different ways.
They make ones for colder weather too.
Assos Robofoil. I’ve used a bunch. The Castelli is pretty good, but the Assos is the most breathable and lightest.
Headsweats make a beanie of cool max that I find works pretty well. I wear it under my cycling helmet with no issue and it works ok for the run. Eventually it will saturate with sweat though.

I picked up the headsweats one (without the stupid tail) this spring and have been using it whenever I go out on a mtb or road ride, and it’s great. Not bald but hair’s cut short enough and it’s thinning to the point that I get scorched all the same.
