Recommend me a dry skin lotion

I’m two months shy if turning 41 and have never had problems with dry skin from pool swimming and showering a couple times a day due to multiple worksouts. But I’m noticing dry skin now and figure I might as well tackle it early.

I’m looking for something that won’t feel greasy when applied so lathering myself up with Vasoline is out!

I used to live in Toronto and found that in the winter my skin was incredibly dry (especially my hands which were dry to the point of being painful).

I never found a lotion that was of much help, but I did find that having a humidifier running at home eliminated the problem.

Do you think it’s just the chemicals or a combination of chemicals plus dry winter air?

Lac-Hydrin Five is the best stuff I’ve ever used. I find it at CVS

My wife works in a lab and washes her hands dozens of times a day. She always had issues with dry hands / skin.
She has found that Melaleuca Renew works best for her…

Amlactin

Curel is great–unscented…

Use an anti-chlor after swimming. I like Kiehl’s swimmer’s rinse.

Keep your showers short & not too hot. Moisturize after. Best I’ve found is Eucerin Calming Creme.

x2 on Eucerin cream.

i use the same stuff i lube my chain with. i figure if its good enough for metal, then it’s got to be…

Take a cod liver oil supplement. You can get it in gel pills so you don’t have to taste it.

It’s fantastic for dry skin!

I live in the southwest corner of Alberta at slight altitude and where the wind HOWLS. The moisture is literally sucked from my skin. I’ve tried so many products – and nothing has ever really worked. Until I wandered into a L’Occitane store. I use the almond body oil (it foams up) to cleanse after a swim, then almond moisturizing lotion. I also bought a couple of jars of skin care cream from the Immortelle line. Their stuff rocks!

Their lotions/creams absorb fast and are light and actually moisturizes. You know sometimes after a pool session (and after a shower) your body temp is up and you feel sweaty? I always hate that feeling and then smearing around a moisturizer that just sits on top of the skin and leaving me feeling hot and slimy and gross. lol.

And, I use way less of the L’Occitane stuff than all the other stuff I’ve tried. A little goes a long way. You get what you pay for I guess! It’s expensive but it works. No more dry, whitish-soapy-residue looking skin after I swim anymore.

I’m a big fan of Aveeno. Doesn’t feel greasy at all.

Thanks for the info everyone. For perspective I suppose I should’ve said I in San Diego. So dry air is out of the question and I notice the dry skin after showering from the pool the most.

I think my wife has one or two of the brands mentioned so I’ll get to them.

Dunno if you are already trying this but I had a similar issue and the dermatologist recommended not drying the problem areas off after a shower but rubbing the lotion into the skin with the moisture. YMMV.

I like Sesame Oil. Only takes a few minutes to soak in. Almond oil is good too, but a bit thicker.

Nivea body lotion. Cheap and easy to get hold of, not greasy either. Are you well hydrated?

X2 on either Amlactin (recommended by my dermatologist) or Aveeno.

Amlactin

Same as Lac-hydrin 5 (ammonium lactate 5%)

Actually, I think Amlactin is still 12% ammonium lactate (same as when it was Rx a few years back). Little greasy feeling for many. The Urea preps (5-20%, 40%+ Rx) too gritty and mostly for xerosis.

My favorites are the newer foam delivery molecules that go on like hair mouse, absorb very quickly through the skin, and work great. Men especially seem to like these since they have no smell and are completely non greasy and easy to use. Good example would be the Quinova stuff (Neosalus) http://www.quinnova.com/products/neosalus/.
