I have a brush with metal bristles. Recently few bristles have broken off and Mrs. S is worried that they may end up in the food and then in us. There were few hospital cases about this.
So what do you use that is not metal?
cleaning brush? I got a blackstone griddle so i no longer have to worry about that. But i had a nylon bristle one with scraper.

Yes, including one in Oz this week. Almost killed a 9 y.o. girl. It seems you’re right to be cautious.
My family bought me the Firehouse grill cleaner from Grill Rescue. It works well enough though not for anything too dirty. I keep a wire brush around as well and try to inspect well after using it.
We got rid of our bristle brushes because of the same concerns, and now use the spiral kind (not sure of brand but they look like this):

A little extra work compared to the wire bristle kind, but they get the job done.
Alternatively, I’ve also used a loosely wadded-up ball of foil held with tongs to clean the grates and that actually worked well too.

This is what i do also. Quick and easy.

Saw one of these types of wooden scraper demo’d at the Minnesota State Fair. Looks like a great concept but after looking them up online, I’ve seen reviews that mention they don’t really conform well to grates and also get tons of gunk stuck/embedded in them.

I have had mine for probably 2 years. Works fine. No gunk build-up. You should probably clean it every now and then, but you should with any brush.

Good to know - I might pick one up to give it a try.

I use something like that as well. Works fine, cheap, and will probably out live you.

This looks good. Also the aluminum foil suggestion. Thanks both.
