I have an old redline conquest that has some ancient gatorskins on it. Bike hasn’t been ridden in a while. I’d like to put some new tires on it for my son to ride with me as I don’t trust the ones that are on there. Easy gravel, fire roads, bike trail, and cinders.
Funny how skinny old cyclocross rims are compared to today.
I have a bunch of old Open Pro by Mavic rims that are 15mm wide that I run up to a 42mm gravel tire all the time. I would think anything in the 35 to 37mm range like Gravel Kings would be fine.I mentioned that tire because for mixed roan and not extreme gravel it is a real nice rider.
I ended up getting new wheels, REI had a cheap set for 180 and the right shifter had died. So fixed it up a bit more than planned. My son took it out for its return voyage today with me. He blasted up the climb that this picture is at the top of I set my 3rd best 30 second effort following him at the start. Youth and being 50 pounds lighter than dad.
