Can I take my 9 speed shimano hub wheel (700 with powertap) and somehow use/convert it for use with a bike spec’d with 10 speed sram?
Or, must I get a new PT/wheel in order to have power on the sram rig?
Other options?

Although I don’t have a PowerTap hub, I can’ imagine you’ll have any difficulty. I’ve had no trouble using Shimano 8 speed or 9 speed wheels (hubs) with my SRAM 10 speed Force. Works just fine.

If you’re using a 10sp Shimano cassette (works fine with SRAM), just make sure you have a 1mm spacer behind the cassette. I don’t think the SRAM 10sp cassettes require that spacer.
That’s all…piece of cake.
no problem, just remember that little thin spacer others have mentioned, otherwise the cogs will be kind of wobbly after you tighten the lockring down.
If you want to still use the 9 speed cassette you can, but you need a special pulley
That’s all sounding like good news. I was so sure there’d be problems I haven’t even tried switching the wheels.
If I’m understanding…
The stock bike that has '09 sram red throughout, including the 10spd chain and cassette, will play nicely with my 9spd all shimano powertap rear wheel.
This gives me a couple options: I can just swap wheels, inserting the 9spd PT wheel into the 10spd set up and live with only having 9 cogs on an otherwise 10 speed system. Or, I can smimply switch cassettes on the PT wheel and use on either the 9spd or 10spd set up bikes. That is, pull the sram cassette off the stock wheel and slip it onto the powertap wheel, with a spacer (whoda thunk 10 cogs would be a skinnier fit than 9?) as needed. Voila, I’ve got a 10spd powertap wheel that easily converts back to 9spd by switching the cassette.
Have I got that right?
No chain width issues, 10spd sram chain with 9spd shimano cog set?
For spacer, I’m thinking I could use one of the loose btwn-cog spacers from an old 9spd shimano cassette in my parts bin?
Google’s got nothing on ST ![]()
all shimano 9-speed hubs will fit a 10sp cassette. So, just switch out the cassette, and it should be good.
