Re-lubing/packing SRAM BB30 Bearings. Need some quick advice

Lubes/bearings are foreign to me so I’m slowly learning.

SRAM recommends that you re-lube their Red rear derailleur pulley bearings on a weekly basis. Already have that taken care of.

I currently have my cranks off, so now would be a perfect time to take care of the bb30 bearings if needed. Do I need to re-lube the bb30 bearings? Is it the same process as the derailleur pulley bearings? Can I do this without having to remove them from the BB?

Are your BB30 bearings made of steel or ceramic?

Actually, I m ay have to correct myself It may be an FSA BB30 that came on my DA. In that case I think it would be steel.

Since it only costs about $30 to buy new BB30 bearings, just replace them every year or two.

Any sealed bearing (in bicycle applications at least) can be removed, have their seals / shields removed , flushed out cleaned and relubed, then have the seals / shields refitted…
It is equally possible to prize out the outermost shield and flush out the bearing, reapply lube and replace the shield…
There is no point in doing any of this if the bearing or its race has any pitting, replacement will be required…

Similarly the bearings themselves (bb30 in particular as they are industry standard size) can just be tapped out replacements fitted for a fraction of the cost from a bearing supplier (buy a few pairs at a time, should be 5-10 bucks each for stnd. chrome steel, twice that for stainless steel… ceramics largely not worth the money (cost benefit) but go you hardest if you think it’ll make a difference to you…

Personally I flush out and relube mine perhaps once a year (multiple bikes, largely dry climate, no power washer abuse)… however on the wet weather bike its at least every 6 months… I tend to get 2-3 years from a stnd. GXP BB, longer from Shimano…

Hope any of that helps…
