works fine for a mountain bike.
Can’t stand rapid rise. It’s a stupid, stupid, stupid Shimano concept, and most pro’s refuse to use it.
what about road?
I’m not sure what you’re asking. LX is a mountain bike component model. Will an LX rd work on a road bike? Sure, if you like to run a larger cassette. But a rapidrise derailleur on a road bike would be weird too.
A little about Rapidrise: think of it this way - with a low normal derailleur, which is what you currently have on a road bike, when you pull cable you shift into an easier gear. When you’re grinding up a hill, and you missed the shift, you can still “force” the shift into an easier gear. But with a rapidrise derailleur, when you pull cable you shift into a harder gear. Shifting into an easier gear relies on the spring, and when you’ve missed your shift and are grinding up a hill in the wrong gear, it is next to impossible to get into an easier gear by spring power alone.
So with rapidrise, your shifting will work, but it’s backwards from what you’re used to. Shimano is the only company that runs with this technology. They tried to push it on the MTB world, but after backlash from the MTB community they were forced to continue making low normal derailleurs as well. Generally, people hate rapid rise.
ah ok, got it now, have been trying to figure this out.
thanks
