This may not exist but if anyplace would know this ragged bunch of cutthroats would.
Since I’m a pasty Irishman I burn easily. Generally only go to pool or beach late in the afternoon and wear sunscreen and only for an hour or two except on vacation when we spend more time during the sunnier parts of the day at the pool or beach.
My wife bought some rashguards for me last year since skin cancer popped up in both sets of parents but they were essentially technical shirts and sucked in the water, no better than a wet technical shirt.
I think ideally I’d like a loose fitting lightweight wet suitish type shirt that won’t overheat me if using for sun protection out of the water.
Yeah that’s the problem I think…something good in the water will be hot as fuck out of the water which would be fine except breezy likes to make sand castles and look for shells so can’t just chill under the umbrella
Huk also makes great quick dry wear – basically they own the FL offshore fish/boat market, and they have a couple with same fabric profile as Patagonia.
FWIW, i rec the hoodies as covering the neck/ears late in the day is great, and it helps when cool at night.
I do more sailing than watersports now, so maybe a different set of priorities, but the fabric blend on the Pat is really solid.
Foils haven’t been an issue around here. The vast majority of foilers are riding waves or the parts of waves that surfers can’t ride.
They ride mostly the unbreaking sections way out on the shoulder. Anyone who tries to get into the mix in a lineup with surfers (as far as I’ve seen) immediately gets told to beat it. 99% of foilers understand how dangerous it is to mix in with a bunch of surfers so it’s rare issue.
A couple years ago a foiler showed up at the local beginner/kiddie break (good place to foil if nobody is around) on a summer day with a little swell. Bunch of kids in the water. He was told “nope” before he even got in the water. A dad basically told him “you’ll get that thing anywhere near my kids over my dead body.”
The mast on a foil at speed could decapitate a person.
Also, the whole SUP thing pretty much died, at least around here. There’s one point break I surf often where a guys SUPs. He owns a house at the break and he’s one of the very few people who can SUP with surfers and not irritate anyone. He paddles out, sits in the rotation and waits his turn. When he’s up he lets you know “I’m going”. Then he’s back in line. If he blows a wave he’s back in line.
