Random idiotic things you do

I had to post this because I am an idiot.

First ride outdoors today in a while, weather has been sucky. Took off my wheel with a PowerTap since it had a trainer tire on, and replaced it with my other wheel. Got to the meeting point for the ride and realized that my other wheel also had a trainer tire on it!!! It didn’t blow up on a 2.5 hour ride, so I guess it was ok.

go read some of SpeedRacer’s posts. Trust me, you’ll feel a lot better!

I once read a thread with ‘Lance’ in the subject line. Pretty much the epitome of idiotic.

Not Tighten my wheel, happened a few times from and back on different occasions.
Never put insoles back into shoes and ran a half marathon like that.
They are just two there are many more.

Started doing triathlons.

failing to unclip when you are coming to a red light… and then falling into the car next to you…

Exited T2 with my helmet still on…

That was quite a few of the JRs and Ag sprints at 2008 ITU as it was cold and rainy and they had trouble removing them due to numb hands so they ran with them on

Don’t know why thats displaying twice. Its almost comical considering how beautiful it was that afternoon when we were out warming up.

Set up transition for a sprint race in the dark last year as it was early morning. Was going for a top 5 finish and hoping for ag win. Good swim, got on bike and as I was pedaling up to speed realized I had pre-clipped the right shoe into the left pedal and vice versa.

Left my cycling shoes in my car. Didn’t realize until the last km of Run 1 (duathlon). Luckily was able to think it through before I hit transition. Luckily car key was in transition. Ran in socks with my bike to the mount line, then dropped my bike, ran through the very surprised spectators, through the parking lot to my car, grabbed my cycling shoes, ran back to bike and got going. The spectators were all cheering for me at this point because they had figured out what my screw-up was. (I was very strategic, I made sure I crossed the timing mat so that I still got a good T1 time. All the screw-up time was in my bike time. For some reason that made me feel better…)

Just to make it even better, this was Guelph 1 sprint day - the Saturday - in 2009, when it had absolutely poured rain and transition and the parking lot were complete mud, so my socks were wet and muddy by the time I got back to my bike. That was the day that all the cars got stuck in the muddy parking lot when it was time to leave. Then the tow trucks got stuck.

Hahaha… that’s classic.

actually left my cycling shoes at home, and was too far away to get them. so i had to ride my speedplays with running shoes . . . not fun, but i finished.

Brutal… Reminds me of… we have weekly cycling time trials 15km to 40km. One of the guys who does ~60min for 40km, forgot his cycling shoes, so ended up riding 40km in his Birkenstocks. Luckily they were the ones with the straps around the heels. He still did some crazy fast time like 65min.

So we now have a standing club record for “40km - Birkie category”

Love that one (and just about anything Paul Brandt). Everytime that’s on the radio and I start singing along to it, my (older haha) husband starts saying “That’s not the real Alberta Bound” and starts singing the Gordon Lightfoot version. Arggghhhhh!

This is a great one too. I’ve got it on my ipod for running:

Ok, we now return you to Stupid Tri/Duathlete stories

Gordon Lightfoot is OK but Paul Brandt is Alberta. Most of the video was shot in the Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass area, I’ve ridden most of the pavement shown in the video, my wife got a pretty big tip from him that week. He has a reputation for being super nice, does a lot of work with kids (he is actually an RN and worked at Alberta Children’s Hospital before he we signed to a record deal).

Like waking up 35 minutes before the gun goes off and still make it o h starting line?

Left my running shoes at home for a sprint triathlon.

Got to the race, spoke to race director, over the PA he asked if anyone had size 10.5 shoes or something close. I got 11.5’s and bought laces. Big, fat Nikes. Not my swift racing flat for sure.

Got lost on bike warm up and barley made it to swim start where I lost my swim cap. Managed to get another right at start and had zero warm up.

Swam in first wave and was in first place out of 400+ people. “Can I pull this off?” i thought.

Leading on bike and rocking. Nothing to lose.

Then I flatted. (front wheel)

Rode the Zipp 404 anyway (stupid) and came into transition and put on huge Nikes. Ran well and got 8th overall and 1st in Age Group.

What might have been…
