Raleigh NC: Where to run long and flat

Looking for a place around Raleigh NC to run long (10 - 13 mi.) and is flat to rolling.

Thx

Try the American Tobacco Trail (http://www.triangletrails.org/images/ATTSYS01a.jpg) the southern end in Apex/Cary is crushed gravel and is about 5.5 miles long with toilets at either end.

i second the tobacco trails…and the roads around there are good to ride too
.

i third the ATT.

I also agree that those are the best roads in Wake county to ride on as well.

Jordan Park near the airport. If you stick to the dirt roads, it’s pretty flat. The hiking trails are a bit up-and-down. Sort surface, plus it’s shaded. There are trail maps at the park HQ and water is available at the central parking spot.

The American Tobacco Trail is a former railroad bed, so naturally it’s pretty flat. It’s in Durham, rather than Raleigh, however, so it means about 20 miles in the car or on the bike beforehand. If you prefer asphalt to gravel, just drive west on I-40 and take the Fayetteville exit. Go right, cross 54, and turn left at the next light. You’ll see a small parking lot at the trailhead. It’s 6.4 miles north to the other end at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

I don’t know Raleigh as well, but the flattest areas are generally west of downtown–perhaps along Hillsborough or Western Aves bracketing the NCSU campus or out along Blue Ridge Rd. near the NC Museum of Art.

Durham is the paved end. The part in Wake County, soon to be connected to the durham end, is crushed gravel and not as flat as the part in Durham. You can access it from Wimberly Road in Wake County
