I just bought an Xterra and dont feel like climbing the truck to put my bike on the roof. I was looking at hitch racks but I am limited because the top tube on my Cd01 is short on the inside and won’t fit normal racks. Anyone know of a solution other than just putting it in the back of the truck?

My husband constructed a gizmo for our Xterra that holds my bike upright in the cargo compartment. It’s a piece of wood that spans almost the entire width of the inside of the Xterra, and bolts into the runners that run lengthwise down the two sides of the floor of the cargo compartment. On top of the piece of wood, there’s a front fork mount to which I attach my bike. The bike travels inside the car (which it sounds you don’t want). But, it’s not on its side, and there is plenty of room for bags/pumps/wheels off to the side. If you want a picture, PM me. We had the fork mounts lying around, so I think the whole thing cost him less than $5 to construct (just a piece of wood, some bolts, and the bike mount).
