Really? Maybe I’m just naive, but every last one of the bars inspected did this? I mean, forty out of forty? In a town that relies, I’d guess, pretty heavily on tourism?
What would happen if I went to one of these bars with a black friend, and we both ordered a beer? Would we get charged the same amount? And what if my friend ordered a beer by himself later? Would they charge him more? I don’t even see how this kind of behavior is easy enough to pull off to be so widespread.
It is disgusting.

I don’t have exact answers to your questions, but I imagine that the study might have been an individual black patron going up to a bar and ordering a drink and an individual white patron doing the same, paying the tab, and then comparing.
But I assume that if you and your friend ordered they’d give you the “white” price. As to later, I dunno, depends on how audacious the particular racist (yes this word is a bit of an assumption, but an educated one) happens to be.
40 out of 40 though, it’s ridiculous. Maybe I should agree now that it is indeed shocking. Yeah, I will. 40 out of 40 is incredible, I can’t really even fathom how that is possible. I gotta read their findings.

I didn’t know about charging more, but I’ll promise you a black man doesn’t want to get drunk and out of line in a N.O. bar, even if the bouncers are black. One bar roughed up the Saints $7 million/year starting tailback.
small correction a “coon ass” is a person in LA with french canadian heritage not an Italian. NO has a serious problem with racism. It is very odd because most of the people in NO are black but the majority of the tourist and bar owners are white. About 95 % of the elected officials in the city are black, while 65% of the police force is white. Recent studies indicate that 90% of the crimes committed last year were"black on black’ crimes. no surprise there. If a city had 90% white folks living there wouldn’t you have 90 % “white on white” crimes. This leads me to my point about why bar owners discriminate against black patrons. The white tourist are" scared" by the black patrons. I think “scared factor” is due to the pub that the city gets about its high crime rate. NO is a beautiful city with a strange history of race relations.
