Racing Kona on Thursday rent your bike Saturday! Lots of late KQs are having issues

My bike was trashed when a car cut me off two weeks ago. I will be okay to do Kona, just not the race I hoped for. Looking for a way to find a good bike to race with on Saturday. Thought perhaps someone racing Thursday might consider loaning/renting their bike for Saturday.

let me know if interested. Responsible 57YO M AG…
thanks

@longtrousers - got your PM, you have your settings configured not to receive PMs, so I can’t reply. thank you for the offer, definitly the wrong size. But I owe you a beer just for the offer!

I have a med SC set up w mantis position, and 165 cranks.

Posting here is a great idea to find a match.

You could also check out the “Ironman Kona Legacy Athletes” group on Facebook, because all the Legacy racers will be riding on Thursday. And if THAT doesn’t work, maybe Bikeworks in Kona will be receiving one of its Thursday rentals in time to turn it around for your bike check-in on Friday. Or, going to an extreme, you could go to TriBike Transport on Monday or Tuesday when people are picking up their bikes with a sign offering to rent a bike after their Thursday race is done.

Of course, if your bike is toast, and you’re not completely done with cycling after Kona, you’re going to want a new-to-you bike anyway. Sooo, maybe you can find a great bike to buy for the big show!

Good luck!

legacy group is a good idea… I have plenty of bikes, only had one tri bike… debating how much more tri will be in my life… reality is I will be getting a new bike, likely the Felt IA 2.0 which is not available yet. I may have sourced a ventum (it’s what I had) for a very reasonable rate that will get me through Kona & STG 70.3WC, so I may be ok…

it is great though to see how quickly and positively people have responded…

I did not know there was a setting like that, changed that now. So at least I learned something. Wish you success with a bike.

Should update this thread to Racing Kona on Thursday rent your bike Saturday! I think many late qualifiers are looking at crazy cost right now and could save a bit by not flying in with the bike! With 2000+ Bikes racing Thursday… pretty sure many could find an option for Saturday. This could also help with lost bikes and damage bikes during travel 👍👍👍

This would be tough for me. It took me literally years to get my bike dialed in just how I liked it (after multiple fits), so racing with someone else’s bike would be a tough one for me.

Sounds like you’ve come up with a more workable and less luck-based option for your race.

Considering that Saturday racers’ bikes need to be checked in on Friday, That gives the exhausted athlete from Thursday afternoon to about Friday morning to hose the Gatorade, athlete drool, sweat and other bio waste off the bike and make it available to the next athlete.

So the idea to borrow a Thursday athlete’s bike that night, test ride it and make possibly unwelcome adjustments and get it to the bike racks on the pier Friday is a bit of a high-stakes maneuver. Not sure I could handle that level of stress!

just adjusting the thread per another request above. You do point out some valid issues.
I fortunately found a sympathetic ear and have a brand new Canyon that I am picking up from my fitter on Friday…

Just so you don’t confuse anyone else… legacy athletes race with their respective age groups. Not all racing Thursday.
