Race Day Breakfast - Hotel / No-Kitchen

Share your race day hotel/no-kitchen breakfast recipes here. Looking for some good ideas to try out, I usually try to get 500-600 calories in but I’ve always had at least a microwave to heat up some food.

Simple cereal + Peanut Butter + Apple Sauce. Topped off with a banana or two?

Saw the title and was planning to suggest exactly what you suggested in your post.

All I can add at this point is to give it a try before a few workouts.

Is there a fridge? I’ve done overnight oats - brought oats and a mason jar (less hipster containers also work), and picked up milk at the corner store.

Peanut butter on a bagel. For IM I had ensure, also.

If it’s a sprint or OLY…pop tarts.

This. But, you can also make it up ahead of time…take in a cooler with ice. I’ve kept overnight oats for 3 days in a fridge.

I wouldn’t want peanut butter pre-race. Don’t want the fat.

Doesn’t anybody use Ensure anymore for race am?

I always found that the stupid easy way to get my cals in, and it doesn’t spoil, get crushed, etc.

I like the idea of Ensure… I don’t eat a lot of peanut butter but I was thinking it was a good way to get calories in. I could skip it and offset it with a bottle of Ensure (which I do like). I think for my next long bike day I’ll try Cereal + Applesauce + Banana. Maybe a spoonful of honey, finish off with an ensure and usual coffee.

My race day breakfast is exactly the same as every other day:

Oatmeal and coffee immediately upon waking up and a banana about 30 mins before go time (race or workout). That ends up being just shy of 500 calories for me.

If you have a coffee maker you can make oatmeal

I usually bust out the bagels in a hotel situation like this.

Instant oatmeal with hotel coffee maker hot water. Also a peanut butter and honey sandwich for more calories If I am doing an IM

Yeah. peanut butter on bagels plus coffee, or rice pudding with coffee, either is good. Failing that, cold pizza from the night before with coffee (don’t knock it til you’ve been forced to try it). Did I mention coffee?

Kozy Shack rice pudding, Ensure (2-3 bottles), bagel with pnb (I take a Justin’s nut butter sachet).

I actually keep the ensure next to my bed, then when I inevitably wake up in the night, I drink a bottle. That way, you make sure liver glycogen is topped up, and you don’t have the load of too many calories at once. It’s not unusual for me to go through 3-4 bottles by 6am.

If there’s no fridge, I actually fly with a Yeti Flip cooler as my helmet box, and when I get to my hotel I fill it with ice and it becomes my fridge.

This, sort of. I have a small slow cooker that I plug in the night before and it’s ready in the morning. x grams of steel cut oats, 2x grams milk, 4x grams water and it’s all good.

I do overnight oats personally.

Oatmeal. Use a coffee maker to heat up the water.

Oatmeal(instant in a cup) + almond butter + nuts and craisins,… Add in some tetrapak very vanilla silk soy milk and I’m at 5-600 cals. This can be done as overnight oats if there is no coffee maker. Just remember to bring a spoon.

Bobos oatbars are 300 cals

2x Clif Bars, 1 banana with some PB, 1 Red Bull, black coffee.
600-700 ish calories

I take an electric water boiler to races.
Via instant Starbucks for places that don’t have them plus
Oatmeal with sugar some dark chocolate berries and banana.

About 500 total.
