How do you quote a previous post on here now? I can’t figure it out! Thanks
- Click reply in the lower left of the message you want to reply to.
- Highlight the text you want to quote.
- A menu will popup:
4. Select quote.
5. viola.
- You can do this repeatedly and each time it will insert the quoted text immediately following the cursor.
Thank you! Very helpful.
On the iPhone the reply box takes up the whole screen, so I had to press the down arrow in top right corner to collapse the reply box to copy the text - took me a while to figure that!!
I can’t figure out how to quote a post. The instructions (above) begin with clicking on Reply in lower left corner - - - the Reply I see is lower right corner - - - and once I click it I can’t get back to the post I’m trying to quote.
Are you on a computer, or a mobile device? Its a little trickier on a mobile device.
There are a couple of different ways to create a reply with quoted text. If you just want to quote a single thing from a single post, you can simply start by highlighting the text you want to quote, and choose the “quote”:
That will start a reply with the selected text inside a quote box. You can then type whatever your reply is, and “post”.
If you want to create a reply where you quote multiple posts, then you can start an empty reply by clicking the “reply” button at the bottom of the thread.
That will create an empty reply box. Then you can type whatever intro text to start your reply. Anywhere that you want to insert a quote, place your cursor in the reply…
<>
then scroll up in your browser to find whatever you want to quote, and highllight that text:
Again press the “quote” button as circled in red above.
Then you can go on typing whatever you want, until you want to quote another bit of text and repeat the process:
The same basic process works on mobile. But, you need to be pretty proficient at selecting text on mobile to be able to make it work. And…with the limited screen size, its also harder to scroll the mobile screen and find what you are trying to quote.
I have done it, but only when it was my only option, and I had plenty of time on my hands (15 hour flight to Korea with nothing better to do).
