Just recently purchased a GSC-10 (speed/cadence sensor) for my Garmin 405. Spent the entire afternoon trying install the sensor my QR Lucero. Due to the clearance of the chainstays I’m having trouble placing the speed sensor where the spoke magnet will not interfere, especially if I have to place it near the crank for the cadence to work. Any idea or recommendation?
When the crank arm magnet passes the GSC-10, the red light does blink which indicate it is not getting a proper reading.
Are you sure that the cadence sensor is “synched” with your 405?
Somewhere in the menus, you have to be near your cadence sensor and tell the watch that you have one.
the 405 was mounted on my handlebar
.
But did you tell the 405, that you have a cadence sensor?
On the 305, it’s under Setting => General => Accessories. It should be somewhere similar on the 405.
If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what to tell you.
The red LED does show the sensor is working; it’s not a low battery indictor.
I problem getting my polar to sync on my 08 QR lucero lite. Ended up going with the v3 after the polar one did not work two different race days. Think it was touchy magnets and sensors. Other then that I love Polar products. Yes I know you have a Garmin . But sometimes its easier to just keep it simple. Remember this acronym everytime you want a new high tech gadget K.I.S.S. ( keep it simple stupid ) . Not that I follow my own advice.
Decided to contact Garmin this morning for some advise. After speaking to a friendly rep named Kim, she put in a ticket to send me another Garmin GSC-10 unit which will come in a few days. I have to say Garmin customer service is TOP notch! Hopefully the replacement unit will solve the problem.
I had some problems with the placement on my Seduza (same frame mold), but did you try lifting the speed sensor arm so it’s pointing up in the air instead of being folded down by the side of the GSC-10? There was definitely no way I could get mine placed correctly for cadence when the arm was down, but as soon as I flipped it up (I had to pull on it pretty firmly) I was able to put the GSC anywhere I wanted in order to get the cadence lined up and then I was able to move the magnet and up-pointing speed sensor arm to wherever they needed to be.
As someone else said, I then had to tell my Garmin to find the sensors initially.
Good luck, I hope this helps if you didn’t already try this.

Did some more research and found someone that had the same problem installing the GSC 10 sensor on their 48cm Soloist: http://forums.cervelo.com/forums/t/3706.aspx. The picture attached showed how the magnet was installed close to the sensor end, not next to the sensor long side. With this configuration there is no problem with the magnet hitting the sensor. The sensor picks up the magnet perfectly.

That’s cool, I never thought of trying that, but again, in that picture, the speed sensor arm is folded down. If it was unfolded in the up position, there would be no issue at all. Send me your email address and I’ll take a picture of mine and send it to you directly. I have my bike here at work sitting 5 feet from me!

With my Cateye v3 the arm lines up with the magnet on the crank arm. There should be a little engraved lline on the cadence arm to line up with. At least there is on the cateye. The big part of unit is the speed part that gets lined up with the magnet on wheel. Again there is a engraved line, to line that up with too on my cateye and I am assuming with yours to.
I had the same issue with my Seduza and like you simply moved the arm so it was facing up. Works fine now.
