Quietest Smart Trainer on the Market currently

I have an older kickr, but its a bit noisy.

Is there a site somewhere that lists which one is the quietest at the moment?

Is it the Kickr v5 or something else?

not to speak for the OP, but I believe he’s requesting people’s first-hand experience with noise levels of trainers… as this forum is a great collection of highly-engaged athletes with real world practice, probably across every trainer in the market now.

vs.

you know… some aggregator websites or YouTube pages shilling trainers.

cheers

Neo range, Kickr Core, Kickr 5, almost all new trainers are ‘quiet’ since they switched belt design. Comparing their sound levels is just splitting hairs now. It’s also highly influenced on the environment they’re in. With direct drive you’re always going to get noise with gear changes. Sometimes LOTS of noise.

Smart Bike is the answer for the quietest all-round trainer. Stages Bike (SB20) and Neo Bike. The Kickr Bike is quiet… not silent.

Well. Shit. Can I be both? Being helpful here doesn’t pay the bills.

Check with GP Lama (who has already chimed in here) or DC Rainmaker (who might at some point chime in here).

I have a Kickr Core, it’s very quiet and I ride Tempis Fugit on Zwift (flat) and don’t change gears a lot so it’s pretty silent.

Thanks Shane.

So if you could only but one trainer, which one would you buy?

I can’t buy a bike version. I’d like to stay married.

The Kickr 5/2020 is in high rotation these days for my own workouts and testing meters. I’d roll with that if it had to be the only one.

Thanks. Decision made.

Off to pushys I go

I went from computrainner to Kickr Bike. Just getting the chain and drivetrain out of the way seems to reduce noise. The Kickr bike is quiet, but it has a humming noise. It is low on the decibal scale though and does not bother anyone. I do live in a house and workout in a basement, but it would be good in an apartment/flat.

I can’t argue with the the Kickr since most love them. But do you use a fan? I have a 3 year old Elite direto and it’s not as quiet as a kickr but with a fan it’s not the loudest thing In the room.

i have a cycleops hammer. i can’t hear it over my fan…which is not loud.

I just switched a month ago from the Elite Direto (2018) to a Neo 2t and I’m super impressed by the minimal sound it puts off (as well as the overall performance). Mind you I had to sell my first born kid to buy the Neo but I have 3 more kids so whatever…

Tacx Neo 2T would have been your best choice if you had done the research. It is silent with the exception of chain noise. I have one and know from experience.

I have the loudest Kickr - the Kickr gen 1. It makes a high-pitched whine, that yes, is noticeable and can be somewhat annoying.

However, I need a blower fan the moment I start riding in z2 or higher with it. Once that blower fan is on, it’s kinda pointless to have an ultra-silent trainer, as the blower fan itself makes a lot of noise.

Any word on updates to the current flock of smart bikes? I’m interested in a Neo bike, but I don’t want to make the leap then have a major revision or competitor come out.

If you want truly quiet, the only one on the market is the 4iiii Flight (formerly Stac Zero). It uses magnets to create resistance, which means there’s no friction to create noise or floor vibrations (which is the source of most neighbour-annoying sound in apartments). This leaves only your drivetrain as the thing producing sounds – keep it clean and it’ll be near silent!

Agree. Fan definitely ends up being louder. And then I usually have headphones on. My direto is okay but I already have replaced the belt once and I use it about twice a week and there’s an up to 10 second lag in resistance changes. Fine for most everything except those super short internals. If this trainer breaks I’ll go to either kickr or saris.

I wouldn’t expect any updates from anyone this season in that realm. Half the companies are still trying to get stockage under control.

As for trainers, like everyone else said - the KICKR CORE/V4/V5 or Tacx NEO are among the quietest out there. I personally use an older NEO 2 at home, but just ride whatever involves the least amount of effort that day to mount a bike when at the office. I’d be happy with any of those.
