I figure that if i lived in the right neighborhood of L.A. or in Manhatten my home would be worth several million dollars. But since I live in the boonies of rural eastern Ontario my home isn’t worth anywhere near that. Property is actually still quite cheap in our area.

Can’t really understand why you’re asking about houses on a triathlon forum. Isn’t it more appropriate to be asking what how much the bikes are worth.

There are many questions asked on this forum that are not tri related. I did not say were I lived or what my home was worth when I first asked the question, and even if I did not own a home and was under 25 what difference would it make?

I live on my own personal island in the San Juans, a private estate accesible only by boat or plane (yes, it’s large enough for an airstrip and hangar). The home itself is only worth $600K (6500 sq ft, three levels with a standard kitchen and “entertaining” kitchen), without the increase due to the property and privacy.
Oh, and I’m 41 and independently wealthy.
At least in my mind…
So, what are you planning to do with all this data anyway? Just some chest thumping? Wow. I’m impressed…

Fine, i’ll bite: Saskatoon, SK, $102,000 - built in 1916, all original hardwoods (dark and beautiful), and unbelievably, nobody since 1916 had painted over the woodwork (doors, door frames, etc). Plus, it’s in a great neighborhood with massive elm trees everywhere. Cheap!
I live 6 blocks from my store in the Ford Historic Homes district. I rented my home 11 years before I bought in and, since I already paid for in once for someone else, they were good enough to cut a killer price. I bought my house for $100K less than the asking price for the three houses on my street that are currently listed.
My house does need some updates though: New garage, windows and maybe even siding. Relatively minor stuff though in the grand scheme of things.
Other than the money I blew renting it all that time, it may emerge as a reasonable purchase. you gotta live somewhere…
I think a lot of the home prices everywhere are grossly over-valued right now due to the oddly low interest rates. When interest rates return to more normal levels (higher) I think we may see a contraction of home prices. Right now most things I see are about 30% overpriced/overvalued. If someone does an adjustable rate mortgage with nothing down to get into a place that is already overpriced even 20% they are in for trouble.
Hopefully, the way I did things I avoided all that- or at least took my licks up front.
Looks like a few here need to go train more or get laid. Hell the guy just asked a question… If none of you know him why would he say he owned a home if he did not? I guess some get there kicks from tearing others down. Personally it does not do it for me.
