how strongly does wind get into the eyes on a long steep descent?
I have Oakley Jawbones with vented lenses and I honestly don’t even notice the vents on descents. I think the vents are far enough away from your actual eyes that they have little effect. Just my two cents.
x2 with the Jawbones…never notice it at all.
x3 The vents are there, and if I look for them I can kind of see one. But, I can’t feel (on my eyes) any wind from them. I’m using the Jawbones too.
I’m using the radar path, also don’t notice the vents. Love the glasses though!
I have the vented M Frame and they’re great. No wind issue. Better than the regular lens as they rarely fog.

I’ve just started riding with Jawbones and I think the vented lenses on fast descents are not so good. They’re awesome at controlling fog at low speeds but something about the way the air swirls behind the lenses when going above 40 makes my eyes water like hell. Not the time I want to be distracted. Any thoughts on the non-vented lenses for cycling?
I use non-vented XLJ Flak Jackets on my rides and never noticed a problem. Frame gets in a way a little bit though, as far as vision is concerned. When I run with them on hot days, however, the area surrounding my eyes gets very hot/sweaty. I wonder if vented lenses would help with that?
May I ask a question?
I use just a cheap pair of glasses, but am getting sick and tired of ALWAYS looking over my glasses. They work great when sitting up, but when aero, I am always looking over the tops of them. DO these fancy glasses eliminate that??
Thanks
.
They don’t need to be more fancy, they just need to be bigger; more specifically, “taller”.
so do these Jawbone and other Oakley glasses do that? ARE they usefully taller for everyone?
.
The radar xl does the trick from what I’ve heard. I like my vented jawbones, but they can slide down enough to just barely get in my field of view.
I have been wearing Flaks for a couple of years. I bought them specifically because they don’t have a frame around the bottom of the lens. I found that when I used to look over my shoulder before passing/switching lanes, the lower frame would block my vision, so the Flaks were a good choice.
This year, I bought some Jawbones and was worried that the lower frame would cause a problem, however they are so large, that the frame is completely out of my field of vision and not a problem at all…

My $0.02 - vented for running & non-vented for cycling is the way to go. Only time I use vented for cycling is when it’s REALLY hot out. That being said, I used the Jawbones with vented lenses for a long time, and I never had an issue; it’s actually the Radars - in my experience - where the venting is actually noticeable on the bike; this because the vents cut more across the whole lens than on the jawbones.
I did a ton of races with Jawbones, and loved them. But I do prefer the Radar XL for riding. And I prefer non-vented lenses on my XLs.
