Question for the tall guys

I am 6’7" and have gotten down close to 215lbs after years of letting my weight go up and down. I have a medium frame and build and am in my 30’s.

I was wondering if there are any tall triathletes in the 6’5" to 6’8" range that would be able to tell me what they keep their weight at for racing and training. My frame of reference is off.

Thanks for any input.

I am 6’6" and 175#. People at work think I have cancer. I am thin and about 8-9% bf.

Just shy of your definition of tall, but I’m 6’4" and train at a steady 180, and like to race at 175.

I’m 6’6 and I race around 180-185lbs. Did a marathon at 178 and that felt pretty good. I suspect if I were super serious 175-180 would be an idea weight for me.

6’7" 31 with a large build.

I played ice hockey for more than a decade at 265, but I’ve been doing tris at 220. 230 for me is clearly too much, 210 is probably ideal.

I’ve been down to 205 at 5-7% bf and I felt that I wasnt gaining anything at that point with more weight loss, and was slightly slower on the bike.

I think you are in the right zone. If you want to pick up some run speed, dropping another 15 will help, but your bike might suffer.

I would suggest slowing dropping and backing off if you feel your power starting to be compromised.

6’5. I am about 185-190 during the offseason. I did my first ironman at about 182 last summer. Everyone that new me was about ready to stage an intervention but I felt good.

I’m 6’5" and usually hover around 175 lbs. It is very easy for me to get up to 190 lbs fast if I go into complete “off season” mode though. I dropped down to 165 lbs for my first IM last fall and felt great. I PR’ed in an open marathon and 40 km TT. Unfortunately had a disappointing run in the IM though…although I think that was a function of other factors and not being “too light”.

Dieting won’t turn a bulldog into a chihuahua.

6’ 4" and I’m my heaviest right now at 170. Race weight for the last few seasons has been 160-165. Trying desperately to keep some weight on this season, but its really tough. Ideally I’d like to race at 170-175. Maybe even as much as 180.

I’m 6’5" and hover around 163. I’ve only started training for a tri about two months ago. Prior to that I’d only been a runner, hence the fairly low weight.

Dude, it varies so much by individual - as you can see from the postings above. I’m 6ft 4 and 190 lbs. I’ve been in the low 180’s but didn’t have power on the bike and swim. When I am mid nineties, it seems to much for the run. All I’m saying is that this may be a topic that you have to answer for yourself.

What is your fat levels, have you had it tested? Can you pinch an inch?

Ah, wish I could help. I’m only 6’2", but for reference I train at 170 and race at 165.

6’4", winter at or north of 175, peak race below 165. Big Matty Reed (pro) says he races at 175 or 180.

Im 6’4" and right now at 182 with 10.5% BF. I plan to race this season at about 173.

I agree that it varies a lot. Just wanted to see what some bigger dudes weighed in at.

Probably going to try and drop another ten and see how I feel at 205ish. It is funny that when you weigh too much everyone says you look fine but when you drop weight people are all of the sudden concerned. I told my sister that when she schedules an intervention for me I will know I am within 10 pounds of my goal weight.
