Question for Computer Geeks

Is it possible that my computer’s power supply is actually draining, rather than recharging my iPod? It never says “Charged” unless I put it on the wall charger–just keeps saying charging. And its battery is almost totally discharged–won’t start up–after a day in the cradle. Same with the Mini I just got, except I have not left that one in the charging dock, or otherwise connected. AND, they are both supposed to work with the high speed powered USB port, and neither of them do.

The 20G was new in January and only rarely used, however, it has been in the dock quite a bit.

It’s definitely possible. If you just got in in January I would call Apple and ask them to replace either the dock or the iPod until it works as it should.

Monk,

Is this an older computer? Do you have it plugged in through a hub? If so, try plugging it directly into the PC to see if that helps.

let me know

No hub. Straight to computer. And, yes, I did just get a dock, but this problem (where it always says Charging) has been around since I got the Pod. I took it off the charger at 8:30 this morning and I am going to check it twice a day. It looks like there is about 1/8 gone in under 12 hours.

If the same thing happens with both of your iPods, my first suspicion would be the computer, not the iPod battery. Maybe your USB port doesn’t deliver adequate power. Do your computer have a firewire port? Or, do you have another computer at home or work you can try out as an experiment?
