Question: bike pump rubber hose popping off adapter

I have a Serfas FP-35 floor pump and one day the rubber hose came unattached from the chuck. Now it comes unattached on a regular basis while inflating to a modest 100 psi.

I did a google search but did not find a solution to reattach the hose to the chuck. Suggestions?

If there is a barb on the chuck, a small stainless hose clamp from the plumbing supply section of your local hardware will certainly hold things together. A couple of sturdy zip ties might even suffice if snugged up really tight. If you do go with a hose clamp I’d tape over it to protect your frame and rims from its sharp edges scratching them.

I don’t see a barb on the chuck at all. I see threads in there, but that’s it (and no threads on the hose).

If I put a hose clamp on the hose it seems to me it it would still go firing off at pressure (because the two parts want to go outward). What am I missing here?

Unscrew the plastic piece that holds the hose in place. Reinsert the hose on to the barb. Screw the plastic piece back on. Done.

Another option is just to replace the entire head.

This…AND screw it on as tight as you can, then get a pair of pliers and give it another go. Hard as you can!

I have the same pump and the same problem. I just took it back to my LBS and got new one. I’m afraid I’ll band-aid it for 6 months and then it will be too late to exchange it.

If a hose clamp won’t fix it, I’d just get a new chuck.

Seemed to work. One tire inflated to 100 psi.

Here’s a diagram of the problem:

In this case the only thing a hose clamp would do is constrict the hose, but not the connection/seal.

Can you use the hose clamp instead of the plastic screw off adaptor?

Good point.

As it stands it seems to work again. If it keeps popping off I’ll either try the hose clamp as you mentioned or replace the head as Erik mentioned.
