by, as you guys say, by somebody at HED, hoohabike, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about these people.
I’m too afraid to ask him this but here goes: When he says or when she says in a selling description of a wheelset (like for example a Hed Alps) is trued to X inches which does not make it a grade A wheel, but then says it doesn’t affect performance, help me understand why a few milimeters or a touch of an inch WOULD NOT AFFECT PERFORMANCE. Does it “hop” when you spin it. Why would it not bug your mind?
I don’t have the exact language because all of his wheelsets up there now are trued to Grade A, but a lot of of them miss it by a fraction of an inch, but “don’t affect performance of the wheel.”
I don’t understand this at all. Help an idiot understand this. I’m sure they are right, but I don’t get it. I’ll just fess up that this bugs me.
I’ve had wheels that were this out of true and you can’t tell at all from the ride quality. So being out of true doesn’t effect performance as much as you would think. Then again…I have a HED3c front that pulses alot and its true as far as I can tell. I have no idea why it pulses under braking.
A wheel out of true to the side really doesn’t make a difference BUT a wheel with a “hop” drives me nuts…I’ll sell it in a heart beat as “never crashed, never raced on, used lightly only on dry nice days”.
What drives me really crazy is a “gently used” wheel…What the F8ck is a “gently used” wheel??
If it’s pretty close to A-grade you will in no way notice a difference in feel. The only way you would notice it would be if you looked down and watched it pass through the brake pads you would see the little bit of a whobble, not really a hop.
I bought one and it is great, definitely a good way to go.
I purchased a Hed 3 front from this seller - it was an A grade wheel - perfect item so I am sorry I cannot comment on the trueness aspect. However, in terms of confidence in the transaction, quality of packing, speed of shipping etc - I rate them exceptional!
