Would it be possible to install this shifter (Vision Metron) where brake levels typically insert on most bullhorns? I’m wondering if you would need a long straight section (i.e., aerobar extensions) to run the cables? Would the bullhorn “bend” make this impossible??
Sort of like this, but on a tri bike?
Sort of but the shifter looks like this (almost like a brake lever):
.
My guess is yes, but then where would you put the brake levers? Or, have I missed something?
I’d say technically you could do it. Functionally, it would be mess. The housing upshifts while the levers downshift. I think you would mount them with the housings upright. To shift, then, your palm would move the housing while your pinky would manipulate the lever. Good luck with that.
Flip them over and… well, I cannot imagine how you might shift.
They work great on extensions, where they were designed to be.

With these brakes: Now imagine the Metron shifter in the “bar end” hole…will it work?

Thanks - I was thinking of installing them the exact way they’re intended (lever down and operated with the index finger) - and the curvature is very similar to that of a brake lever. I won’t see how my hand position would be any different than if they were installed on aerobar extensions - just a tad wider. Note my above post on the brake lever option.
But this is precisely why I’m asking - if folks think its a no-go than I want to know now before I invest.
I see no reason why it wouldn’t work…
Thanks - my main consideration is the sharp bend immediately at the end of the shifting mechanism…(1) can you still route the cables and (2) will it still shift properly??
Ahh, my mistake. I was thinking drop bars. If the bend is too sharp, maybe those L-shaped brake noodles could be used.
Bump for the weekend crowd. Anyone using them currently?
