Question about iPhone as a hotspot

I have verizon and am thinking about getting an iphone 4 (not the 4s) and an ipad 2. On the verizon website is says that the iphone 4 can serve as a mobile hotspot for up to 5 devices. I’m thinking that someone said the iphone 4 won’t serve as a hotspot - so I’m wondering if it will do it out of the box.

I’ve developed some web-based software that I’m trying to sell and am thinking about using the ipad to show it. I’d prefer to use the iphone as a hotspot if I can.

Anyone know if I can do this with the phone out of the box without having to buy anything else?

You can turn the iPhone 4 into a hotspot, but, you have to pay for it.

Or, you can jailbreak the iPhone and DIY.

Yes, I use a hotspot all the time (I’m on ATT). Works like a charm on the 4 or 4S. Any reason why you wouldn’t spend an extra $100 for 8GB more space, much faster phone with better camera, voice to text, siri etc in a contract that costs over $2300?
