Frank, you conosistently put some great photos and video up here. I really enjoy them. That was a great clip that really shows people what that incredible climb is like. I’ve seen photos of it, but never video. Awesome. Thank you very much.

Thank you for that one!

  • That was just how it felt going up that hill, except it didn’t feel that long or steep at all!

Thanks for posting. I’ll be doing that race this summer. I now need to find a place to stay. Do you have any suggestions as to which towns near Roth I should look into?

Check with Christine and Tanner at http://www.thetriathlonexperience.com/ . They take a group from the states each year. I traveled with them in 2006 and had a great time. It is an awesome event and the crowd support is amazing. They stay at a great villa in Hipolstein (sp?). They are within walking distance of a great local bike shop, the swim start at the canal, a stainless steel 50M pool, several restaurants, and the best pre-race bavarian bar-bq you will ever attend.

Tell Christine “Double Stacker” sent you.

Good luck.

looking forward to riding that myself this July!

Cool video
I don’t know what is more impressive blasting the downhill holding the camera or passing two people on the climb(with the camera!)

PS #182 might want to talk to someone about the drafting going on behind them

Thanks for posting that! I was looking for some good footage to show my girlfriend why this race is so “special”. We’ll be going, but she’s watching and I am racing.
For the other poster, I signed up with triathlonexperience, and I have yet to hear one bad thing about traveling with the group. Is anyone else on here competing in the firefighter division?
I might have to change my sig line to 44-23, the only way to climb.

The finish and T2 is in Roth (some small hotels and home stays ) itself as is most of the pre- and after-race action.
The start and T1 is in Hilpolstein - there are some bed and breakfast opportunities and also a camping ground in Heuberg.
Additionally there are a lot of small towns with bed & breakfast houses (Eckersmuehlen, Wallesau, Laffenau, Heideck, etc.)

Regards,

Frank

We all should do a pre race meet here in Roth at the expo and take some pictures. If you come early we could also do a check ride of the bike course.

As a Roth inhabitant I’ll of course do the race, too.

Frank

Sounds great!

Has anyone found a great airfare deal?

Is anyone also planning on crossing over to France to catch a day or two of the tour? I am looking into flying into Germany for the race, shipping my bike back, and then traveling around as we make our way to France before we leave. Anyone else doing something similar?

I hope to do the same. We’re flying with skymiles, Air France there, Delta home.
