I know a lot of athletes (dare I say most) wear Oakley’s, but I’m liking what I’m seeing coming out from R/P. How does R/P measure up to Oakley as far as optics, quality, material, etc…?
From the search function, it looks like RP is more friendly in the customer service area.

I like them both quite a bit. Currently sporting the Rydon glasses, and they are just fine as far as vision while in aero, running, etc. They don’t fog on my yet, we’ll see how they fare in that over winter.
They do grip better than Oakley is one thing I have noticed.
Quality, material and optics are very good. Oakley has more style (personal preference) and higer quality optics. On the otherhand Rudy has the industries best warranty. No other company including Oakley cover scratches on the lenses.
In both options you can’t go wrong.
I like the look and functionality of Rudys best. The RP Noyz are the bomb! Great vision, photocromic lenses, very sharp and the color options are great.
Just picked up a set of Eynox RPs to replace my oakleys, and I love them. I got their gear deal (since I needed a better helmet anyway) and they gave me free spare lenses with that deal. My Oakleys seemed to let less light through although the RPs are rated the same. They feel very durable and are a bit more flexible than the oakleys (thats a good thing) they also fit my head better. You cant beat the fact they cover scratches on the lenses. I scratched the lenses on my oakleys and after buying ($70) a second set of lenses I scratched them in a week! With the RPs they would have replaced my first set.
Full disclosure: I am sponsored by RP. However, I did approach RP while wearing Oakley.
I like the RPs better. Oakley are nice, but in my experience RPs are more bang for the buck…a lot more. Mine (in my 5th year with RP) have lasted a LONG time, still fit great, and still look new. With their lens replacement program (scratch a lens and you send them back and get a new set for something around $15) you can effectively keep your glasses new. The two things i really like: 1) their glasses, with very few exceptions, keep the wind out of your eyes–other glasses dont as well. At 40+mph you get watery eyes, but not with most RPs. 2) the bug screen in their helmets is a wonderfully simple concept, but I have not had a bug get in my helmet in 5 years.
Agreed. Rudy Project are by far more durable than any of the 5 pair of “Breakleys” (Oakleys) I’ve owned. The only pair of Rudy’s I’ve actually had crack on me were from accidentally stepping on them after falling off a table. Better bang for the buck as stated here–now go buy some Rudy’s…there are a ba-jillion models to choose from too. Disclaimer: Sponsored by Rudy Project (but only because they really ARE the best…why settle for less?)
I am also a sponsored athlete, and wearing the Sportmask. Best glasses I have ever had.
Question for you other Rudy users. Can anyone supply me with a photo of them wearing either a pair of Freeons, Exowinds, or Rydons? I may purchase a new pair and am trying to get an idea on lens size. Unfortunately I do not have a retailer within driving distance.
