Quad soreness after riding road bike

I’ve switched from riding exclusively on my TT bike after buying a new road bike and I’m noticing that the only muscles that are sore/tired after a ride and the next day are my quads.

I ride a pretty aggressive position on both bikes - but I don’t have that experience riding my TT bike.

Does this imply that there’s something off about my road bike position? Or is that a normal thing?

Where in your quads? I’m guessing the rectus femoris (upper outside). I think it is not uncommon to have different soreness based on position from road to TT based on hip angle - I am more of a roadie and when I ride the TT I sometimes find I am weaker and get more soreness/“crampiness” in my vastus medialis (inside/lower middle of thigh).

it’s pretty general throughout my quads but if anything I’d say the inside and outside lower part are the most sore.

What ssott43 said. When the positions aren’t exactly the same, you will engage the quads differently. Keep splitting your time between the two bikes and it will work out. I have this problem in the spring after spending 4+ months on my trainer/crit bike exclusively.

Yep, what the others said.
Presumably your position is different on the two bikes. A steeper saddle position on the tri bike engages your muscles a bit differently than the more rearward saddle position on a road bike. If you ride both regularly you’ll adapt and both will feel fine. If you ride one the vast majority of the time, you’ll likely have a little discomfort during and/or muscle soreness after rides on your rarely used bike.
I rode mostly on my road bike for years. Then last year while training for my first IM, I rode the tri bike pretty much exclusively for about 5 months. I missed the road bike and was looking forward to getting back out on it. First time back out on it after the IM was a horrible experience. I expected to feel comfortable, powerful and nimble as I remembered but instead it just felt wrong. My legs felt odd and unresponsive, the saddle was in the wrong place, and everything just seemed different than I remembered. If I remember correctly I did have some DOMS in my quads afterwards. After a few rides, I was back to normal and loved my road bike again. But there is an adaptation period for me, and probably most people unless they have oddly similar positions on both bikes, which would seem to defeat the purpose of having both!
