QR Caliente (2)

I’m looking for a bike for my wife who is getting back into triathlon after a long period of running since her last. I am wondering if I could get some feedback of other bikes of this level that would be good to consider. She will be doing primarily international distance races. She is 5’4" and has a short torso. The Caliente is attractive due to the carbon seat stays and fork. She has had some issues with her back getting sore on the bike.

Thanks for the help.

The Caliente is an attractive bike, but has some unusual (for some people good, for others maybe a compromise) features.

I’ve yet to figure out the reason for the shape of the carbon seat stays beyopnd aesthethics. They perform that functio very well and look really cool, but I would have preferred a more functional approach to their design- or, if they are functional, I don’t understand their function.

The bike is nice and stiff but you take on a little extra weight to get that stiffness. For a big, powerful rider in a frame size above 55 on a flat course that is a reasonable trade.

Overall, a nice ride for some people.

I bought last year’s Caliente, the black and silver model, with round seatstays. Stays on the current model are ovalized, or so I’m told. I’ve been pleased with it. Its ride cushier than my ti road frame, but like the post above I doubt it would make the difference with a back problem.

I hate to beat that long-dead horse again, but a great fitting may be an especially important goal to shoot for here.
