Byram coming right through and has increased the speed of the âDerron groupâ and thatâs closed the gap to LCB. Also weâve seen Waugh close the 18 sec gap back to amber (behind Learmonth). Derron in the box seat now, less than 2 mins down.
Wonder what run GTB has in her.
Waugh has got over whatever was bothering her and is back with the front 2, Byram came alive on the bike and made up about 40secs on this last lap.
Yes, very intriguing what GTB can do here.
Waugh comes out of T2 first after making the point of flying past the other 2 to make into transition 1st.
And now we are going to miss a lot of this amazing womens race when the men start swimming

Especially with just 20 athletes on the course, I wonder if a guy on a motorcycle with a stop watch and a walkie-talkie couldnât do a better (and cheaper) job to determine mid-race splits than error-prone âdumbâ timing mats. Some part of me thinks that long-course race organizers are making things unnecessarily difficult for themselves by insisting to pretend that group dynamics arenât more important on the bike than individual splits.
But nobody cares whether Lucy Charles-Barclay is 3 or 4 seconds behind Jess Learmonth at kilometre 27.3. A good T2 will make a bigger difference than that anyway. All viewers really want to know is that there is a leading group made up of Learmonth, Charles-Barclay, and Waugh, that the chase group is almost 1 minute behind and made up of Lee, Taylor-Brown, and PĂ©rez Sala, and that the next group already has a gap of 2 minutes on the leader.
Yes, the masses of Qatari spectators lining the streets of âthe second largest city of Qatarâ were sure worth holding the race on what is a weekday for everybode else. /s

No Derron has caught 3 secs. Letâs give this 20 minutes. GTB going out strong and has now moderated. She does that.
Derron has just overtaken Learmonth, the splits have had her infront of Learmonth, these splits are just not reliable at all.
Derron passed GTB, but not managed to gap her.
