Q-rings on Shimano compact?

Are q-ring still incompatible with shimano compact cranks? Are there any plans to make a version that works with them?

They make compact rings with a 110 bolt pattern. I have compy stuff and have the compact Q’s (50-36)
http://www.rotorcranksusa.com/s1-q-rings.shtml

I know but their web site also says: “however the outer compact 50T Q-Ring does not fit Shimano and Campagnolo compact 110BCD cranksets without excessive machining”

Since you’re saying it works fine with a compy compact, then maybe it would also fit a shimano compact despite the warning (I have ultegra). Hopefuly Gary will chime in.

The inner 110 BCD 36T Q-Ring fits the compact Shimano perfectly, but the outer 50T does not, there is no current work-around unfortunately.

Do not fit on High sierra or Zinn compact cranks either. :o(

Gary,

Will the 50-36 compact Qrings fit on a Ritchey compact crankset?

The RC’s are a tad too expensive for my backup road bike but the Qrings may be the way to go. 3 bikes with RC’s and one with Qrings.

Hi Paul,

Yes, 110 BCD Q-Rings will fit the Ritchey compact crankset.

The installation instruction for Ritchey compact cranks is a currently a
work in progress, so I hope this makes sense.

Below is a list showing the degrees below 3 o’clock where Q-Rings are at
the maximum size.

Normal setup on a standard compact crank such as FSA, SRAM, etc. it is
bolted opposite to the pedal.

#1…………… 8º for the 50t …13º for the 36t

#2…………. 13º for the 50t …18º for the 36t

#3……….… 18º for the 50t …23º for the 36t

#4……….… 23º for the 50t …28º for the 36t

#5……….… 28º for the 50t …33º for the 36t

On a Ritchey compact crank, the marked regulation point on the Q-Ring is
mounted on the hole behind the crankarm

There is no #1 setting available to use on the Ritchey crank

#3…………. 13º for the 50t …18º for the 36t

#2……….… 18º for the 50t …23º for the 36t

#5……….… 23º for the 50t …28º for the 36t

#4……….… 28º for the 50t …33º for the 36t

Essentially, we recommend you to start with the #3 setting, so you would
actually start with the #2 setting (largest diameter is 18º below 3
o’clock).

wonder what i should try on my d a p3 c 10spd or maybe i have a 9?? i know i have a 12 25

I would suggest the 40/53T Q-Rrings set
.

I would suggest the 40/53T Q-Rrings set
so would this preserve the 12 25 or now would it feel like a 11 27 w the qrings???

You would still use the 12-25, but pedal more efficient, using less energy to go the same speed.

Gary, your new website no longer mention any incompatibility between Q-rings and Shimano compact cranks. Did a new version came out, that fixed the issue? If so, how can I make sure I’m ordering the new ones, and not the old, incompatible version? Are they still compatible with FSA Compact cranks?

The outer compact 50T 110BCD Q-Ring does not fit Shimano, SRM, FSA 2007 K-Force Light-Compact, or Campagnolo compact cranksets. The inner 36T does fit all compact cranksets except Campagnolo. 8/9/10sp. http://www.rotorcranksusa.com/pdf/q-ringscompatibilitylist.pdf

Sorry I just confused www.rotorbike.com for www.rotorcranksusa.com. rotorbike.com does not mention any problem with shimano compact. Only after I posted this did I go back to rotorcranksusa.com, and realized I simply confused the two websites.
