Q ring front derailleur

Did some searching around and haven`t found an answer as of yet.

I am running a 54/40 setup.

Everything works great with the shifting, but in order to clear the big 54 tooth in the front, the derailleur is so high that when in the small chainring on the front the chain touches the bottom of the derailleur in the 4 maybe even 5 smaller gears on the back. Not that i`d go all the way down anyway, but is this normal?

You need to angle the front mech, you can get a shim/wedge. SRAM make them. This will solve your problems. Can’t remember what they are called but Google it.

I actually wedged a small piece of plastic between the hanger and the deraileur (SRAM RED)… Worked great for entire 2010 season.

I wedged mine, but still had chain rub in the big ring, and plan on going bigger for some courses with long descents, so I took the dremel to the rear section of the cage that bridges the inner and outer plates. This eliminated a lot of problems because now I can run the FD lower and still have clearance for both rings.

Thanks all for the replies.

I just called Rotor and i`m getting a wedge sent to make this easier.

Thanks all for the information!
