I was just reading the Wisconsin athlete’s guide and noticed the standard IMNA clause against nudity in the transition area. Is this really such a problem that they have to specifically outlaw it? I doubt that any of the competitors really have a problem with it, or that anyone would take their time to “look”. So what’s the point? Before the clause, were guys always going up and shaking their wang in volunteers’ faces? Or is this just bad ol’ american conservatism reaching into our transition area?
What’s up with all the American bashing on this site?
maybe they’re just worried about naturists entering the race!
well, perhaps some are tired of all the French bashing!
What about all the Trinidad and Tobago bashing?
As far as nudity, who cares. I live in Rochester, NY (home of the topless seven) and as many a bumper sticker proclaims, “Topless! It’s the law!”
What american bashing?

Is there a changing tent or equivalent for IMWI? For IMCAN there were some tents you ran in and out of for T1 and T2. Otherwise I guess just be quick about it and hope to avoid a penalty.
I totally fu$k*ng agree. Its american conservatism. Im american and we really need to lighten up. At IMLP the only thing that I was doing was trying to survive, the last thing I did was look around. I don’t see the big deal everyons got the stuff.
Are societies so much worse where nudity is accepted…NOT (sweeden, germany ets).
If you are from Trinidad then you are Trinidadian. However, if you are from Tobago are you a Tobagan? Just wondering.
The transition is very good at IMWI and you can get naked and run around the room if you wish. Public nudity has to do with the fact we don’t want to see your penis. If that bums you out try and show it around the world, for the most part topless chicks are a go, but full nude males aren’t exactly attractive or encouraged. Even naked Europe has fairly established social rules on what’s appropriate. I know my local area in Germany was very non nude, but you could go in the Sauna naked. Just up the road FKK (free culture) nudity had their nights at the swim pool. Funny to see a guy get worked up when he realized he left his swim trunks in the sauna. He had no problems in the sauna with all the people, but did when entering the swim area. A chick taps him on the shoulder and he scrambles to get back in the one way door.
Once clothed and out of the transitions, lovely Wisconsin women will rub you in tan lotion or oil, you don’t get to rub back. Guess one could bitch about conservatism again.
Well, you never know when these guys decide to start triathlons!
Did you see the photo of the guy with the HRM strap? That’s “priceless”.
I’m no Mister Universe, but are there any half decent looking nudists? The pics on that site are just plain scary.
That’s the real fear. They are protecting us, it’s not even good fully clothed.
this is an “old” rule - goes back in the day when this sport was young, it was not uncommon for racers to change clothes in the bike corral - in the day before changing tents. Thus, a rule USAT against public nudity. Nobody wants to see a hairy ass in transition. Well, at least I don’t.
Are you from Trini so am I
.
We choose to participate in a sport that can involve the changing of one’s clothes in public…at speed…sometimes the towel drops…sometimes you don’t have time to use a towel. If you don’t want to see hairy asses find another sport.
It stupid puritanism nothing more.
In Norway at the HP NXTRI on the other hand http://www.nxtri.com/rules2005.htm (see a little down the side) “Competitors will not be disqualified for accidental nudity in the transition zones.”
Well, you never know when these guys decide to start triathlons!

re: public nudity - I was going to mention something about pictures, but frankly after seeing the images at the referenced link, I think it is best to leave well enough alone!
The problem is that spectators can be offended by this which put race venues in jeopardy. Many spectators are locals and have a say in who uses their roads and lakes.
I agree that it is completely stupid, but that’s the USA. We can’t get naked in public here. By the way, most American countries including Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Costa Rica are also very inhibited about public nudity. It’s mainly European nations where this is considered normal.
It makes sense to print this in the guide since many Europeans come here to race.
I’m not advocating this as I think the European approach to nudity is better, but I think that we have to be pragmatic and respect the local customs of our race venues.
