PT & non PT HRM compatability

Are there any HRMs around that would be compatible with a Power Tap? Would like to have the HR info for the ride and be able to run and capture HR without having to wear two chest straps.

It is hit or miss compatible with polar. About 1 in 6 to 1 in 8 times it will register HR from a polar strap. They share similar coding, but different patterns ( my non-technical explanation ). Sometimes, they will overlap and you get data on the PT.

I’ve found that my Polar 425 watch will pickup the PT HR strap, however, my 625 does not.

I just wear the polar strap and pull the HRM data off of the 625. Sometimes I get lucky and there’s HR data on the PT and I just consider that a bonus.

I just talked to a guy at Saris/CycleOps Support today about this. He said that Polar didn’t want to license/co-op (whatever the term is) their technology, and that no coded Polar strap would work. Some of the older non-coded ones might work. Garmin straps should work ( I haven’t tried this ).

It would be nice to have all the data in one place and wear just one strap but wearing the Polar strap and using a 720 for HR only is an acceptable solution for me. Does anybody know if you can import the HR information from a Polar file into the CycleOps software or Cycling peaks? Again, I haven’t tried this but it seems reasonable that you could paste the tabular HR data.

Thanks folks.

I asked this same question a few weeks ago. For the new Powertaps that come with coded HR straps, the older non-coded Polar straps won’t work. I wrote to Saris, and they said that the only non-PT strap that’s compatible is the Garmin.
