Not sure why you think they’re terrible. They are my favorite tires. Grip likes nobody’ business. I like them better than GP4000

Yeah. Here in the mountain west, the Michelin Pro 4s flat when you say goat head. They ride well, at least for the 3-4 blocks before they go flat.
The GP4000S are also on sale at PlanetCyclery. 2 for $75. and it’s a US based company.
and hey- the ProRace4’s are good tires. the Conti’s are a little more rugged and a little faster, but the Michelins are still one of the better tires out there with a very nice road feel. I truly enjoy riding them, and buy them from time to time, as they come with Red sidewalls, which look great on my steed.
Great tires except for the fact that I see threads after a few hundred miles…which doesn’t happen with the GP 4000’s

This. Poor durability and once they wear a bit, they seem to become much much more suceptible to punctures.
I’ve used Pro Race 3s for years only one pinch flat in all that time. Are the 4s less durable than the 3s?
I rode last year on the Michelins and had lots of problems with flats and durability issues. Went through 4 of them (I too got them on sale). I don’t think the price will get low enough on them for me to buy again.
GP4000s were my first choice, but were $75/pop. Will use the Michelins as training tires and then put on some Contis for racing.

I never get pinch flats. I am talking about goat head thorns and other nasties. I have found the Pro, 2, 3, and 4 to suck in that regard. In fact, I think each generation gets worse than the last.

Probably more like what’s wrong with me. Two of the tires I absolutely shredded patches off down to fibers before getting 200 miles on them.
Yes, I’ve had perfect service from the Race 2s and 3s over the years. My one pinch flat was more poorly timed bunny-hop rather than delicate tire.
My question is and this may be the wrong thread to ask but compared to the 3s are the 4s being found to be significantly less durable?

I’ve used the Michelins as race tires for the last few years, and for the most part have been happy with them. I usually buy a new set for my race wheels every year and demote the previous set to back-up and training.
I did have flatting problems with one set two years ago. I was told that Michelin had some manufacturing problems at one point and some bad batches of tires got out in the market. Don’t know if it was true or just BS.
